Problemsss!!! |
|
I used a windows xp cd to do a repair install because i kept getting a black screen after POST. But, now when i go to windows firewall, it says due to an unidentified problem, windows cannot display firewall settings.
While i was downloading avira antivir free, i got a bsod, as i could not do anything i restarted from the button. I have ad aware free, and it keeps telling me to restart my computer to initalize adwatch live. but im sure that adwatch live comes with the pro edition. Ive tried restarting numerous times but it doesnt work. What am i to do?

i would just start over with a fresh install. if you get similar problems after that you might have bad hardware.

try to recreate the situation where you got the bsod. write down the error code this time. that is the line beginning with STOP. also, if there is an error message at the top that looks LIKE_THIS, and/or a file mentioned at the bottom, post that too.

May be you need to format the computer and install a good copy of windows and as soon as installing the first thing is that to install an antivirus on your system. Scan before installing anything on your system.

quote superhifive7woo man settle down. there's no immediate reason for a reformat. just do what hiigaran said, make that bsod happen again and write down the error codes. -------------------

I you wanna do it, then its up to you.
Just boot with the XP installation CD and format the partition on which you currently have windows and then install the fresh copy in the same one. -------------------

theres nothing like a clean installation of windows, so if you do have other problems that you arent willing to fix, then just back up your important data and go for it.
however, i would still like to see some BSOD information because it might be hardware related, in which case a reformat would likely do nothing for. quote merryjohnsonobviously you know nothing about viruses. -------------------

quote hiigaranA reformat is a legit way to make sure you've cleared all the viruses. First back up your DATA/reformat/install comodo.

re: Problemsss!!! |

i wasnt referring to that. the fact that he says scan before installing anything on your system is what i was referring to. viruses dont come on official disks for games and other programs. hell, software from legit sources on the internet dont need to be scanned either. and nothing is mentioned about spyware either, which leads me to suspect this person is one of those guys who thinks everything is a virus.
also, hes advertising in his sig. -------------------

re: Problemsss!!! |

if i do a clean install of windows xp will the product key be the same one as the one i used for the repair install. I used magic jelly bean keyfinder to find out what it was.

re: Problemsss!!! |

of course. you are using the same license key with the same motherboard of your system, so there are no issues.

Are you sure Hiigaran. Because if i delete the partition which my current windows xp is on and the product key doesnt work, then what will i do?
