Laptop Battery Hack? |
|
Hello!
This video about hacking laptop batteries: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BtqRvAu71Gw The battery in this looks well old, do you think I'd be able to do it with my HP Pavillion Dv9572ea notebook laptop battery?

Well I did this on my gateway lappy and it works fine not quite sure about dell but im pretty sure it would be the same

The one on the Youtube video is a Gateway as well. Though, I don't know if it's possible with every type of laptop battery. As I imagine that the newer ones are made better, so they'd be harder to get into? Also, I'm not sure I want to risk cracking it open and then I bugger the whole thing up if it all goes wrong?

im sure newer laptops use different batteries. if you look at the battery packs, there are multiple pins or contacts, which probably means there are many different types of voltages that a simple battery replacement like this wouldnt fix very easily. these batteries would probably have to go through extensive modding, but then again, i could be wrong. im not a battery man.

Yeah, I think I'm going to open it up and have a look. I might even try adding some more cells to the pack, as I know you can get like 6 or 12 cell batteries, which means they last longer the more cells that they have.

adding more cells will increase the voltage. youll risk burning out something by upping the volts. need higher amperage cells, so youd be replacing batteries, no adding more.

Ah yes, that's true, but when they say '12 cell battery', that has more capacity than the normal '6 cell' battery you get with the laptop. So in the '12 cell' one, is there actually any more cells, or are there the same amount of cells but they just have a higher capacity?

I never knew the inside of the battery packs looked like that. I always just assumed that the battery itself took up all the room inside the plastic molding and that there wasnt a cylindrical battery type thing on the inside.
I dont think I'll risk saving $70 to replace parts from my battery with the chance that it could damage my laptop when I plug it in. I'd rather spend the extra money on a new battery rather than having to buy a whole new laptop because I accidentally fried mine.. ------------------- quote TurMoiL911

re: Laptop Battery Hack? |
quote Tazza20they have twice as many cells, but they probably all run at half the voltage, so the end result becomes the same amount of voltage, with double the number of cells. -------------------

Lol, I wonder if there actually are any car batteries that are full of AA cells? It is possible to do!

re: Laptop Battery Hack? |

not really. the batteries are 12 or 24 volts. the batteries in that video would have to be fractions of volts. now AA cells are 1.5 volts, so thats impossible. youll try the starter motor, and everything else connected to it.

What you could do, is. lets say you had 504 AA batteries in there. You could take 8 of the batteries and connect one to another, then you'd have 12 volts. You do that with every other remaining battery, so in the end you'd have 64 sets of 8, all giving out 12 volts. You arrange all of the sets of 8 in a ring circuit, so that would increase the capacity not the voltage. All in all, it'd be giving out 12 volts, and have a very high capacity.
