need help computer broke

Sorry for the long read guys but I tried my best to explain the story and point out any problems.

ok so i used this site to build my computer and it's been working fine up until yesterday, i built the computer last year february.

my computer has been working fine for awhile, no slowdowns or delays of any sort. But yesterday I was playing Street fighter 4 in max settings and i've been playing it in max settings for 2 months. So i was playing sf4 and on youtube. Now i don't know if this has anything to do with the problem but I farted and the screen suddenly got *bleep*ed up. My pc is right next to me so it can take in the air. anyways now whenever i boot up my computer even in the startup screen there are relics all over, white squares and numbers all over I cannot see anything. But 1 time I switched the slot for the digital plug for my screen and it worked fine until 5 mins in when my pc started delaying when i tried to close the sidebar of vista and then the screen went messed up again.

So I am thinking it might be my screen so I connected my screen with an old computer and it worked fine but i had to connect through analog and not digital. anyways i am thinking it might be the graphics cards problem i use 8800gt and my pc is very dusty everything is full of dust even the heatsinks and fans, could that be the source of the problem? My old computer does not have a slot for the 8800gt so i cannot test it out, but i want to ask you guys what u think because none of my friends have custom computers that i can try the gpu on..

Also could sf4 have overheated my gpu? because I only use 2gb of ram since my other stick is defected and everything runs on stock and the heatsink for the gpu is also stock. My processor runs on 2.4ghz stock also i have not overclocked it. Also my powersupply might've initiated a problem because it leaks electricity. Whenever i shut my pc off the psu actually continues to send electricity and the pc ends up booting up again.

pc specs
antec 900 case
gpu :8800gt
ocz 600w psu
gigabyte p35-ds3r mobo
processor:intel q6600 cpu
screen: samsung 226bw 22"

So i was wondering if you guys know what the problem is and any advice to find the problem out and fix it. Shiet how do I register my product to evga because I didn't do the register within 30 days thing.

re: need help computer broke

dust clogs fans and heatsinks making it harder for heat to escape. blow out all the dust in your computer and video card and see if that makes a different. your card is probably overheated and most likely needs to be replaced

re: need help computer broke

try someone elses video card in your computer. if it works, the video card is bust.

and why didnt you RMA your psu if its not turning off properly?

so what's the best way to dust out my pc? Can I use a hairdryer or do I have to take out each piece and dust it off with a brush?
sorry I don't know how to quote on here so umm regarding the psu thing, I wasn't thinking it would be a problem but turns out it is, so now I'm rmaing it. Also I really don't have any access to other ppl's video cards or pc because I don't know anybody that has a customized pc that I can take apart. Is there any other way I can tell if it's my video card that is broken?

re: need help computer broke

your psu might be the whole problem. if it is showing problems like this, then there is a good possibility that something is wrong with the power rails, and so it cannot support anywhere near the wattage it is designed for. see how you go with the RMA first, and then we can take it from there. in the meantime, you can do one more thing - does your motherboard have an onboard display port? if so, connect your monitor to that, and remove the video card. if you still have problems, then its not the video card or the psu (still RMA the psu though), and wed have to move on to the motherboard, cpu, and ram.

re: need help computer broke

if your motherboard has onboard graphics then plug into that and see if it works.

re: need help computer broke

just send it in bubble wrap. its got static, but it wont affect your circuitry. besides, this is why you need to keep the packaging for a while, just until everything has been verified as working.

The best latest video card would be the GTX295 for Nvidia and the 5870 for ATI.

LG 20" WSXGA+

re: need help computer broke

performance wise, get the GTX 295, but for future proofing, a couple of 5870s in crossfire will be better, as they support directx 11.

you can use a vacuum cleaner at full power or some compressed air cans.

re: need help computer broke

actually a hair dryer would be possible, but you wont get as much dust out as with compressed air because of the nozzle sizes.

re: need help computer broke

thx for the reply guys. The gtx 295 is really expensive and I don't think it will survive in my air cooled pc. Anyways I don't really need anything that crazy, I was thinking of the 9800gtx. Where do i get compressed air cans and cardboardbox/bubblewrap, sry I really don't know anything lol. I was also thinking of getting a new stick because they won't reply to my rma.

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820231166
this is what i use but 1 of the stick was defected and i never rma'd it. I know next time I will be sure to rma all the defected products lol I was stupid not to. So should I get new sticks or buy another 2 gb 1, would it slow the speed down because both sticks are different?

re: need help computer broke

Compressed air can be found at most stores that have stuff other than only food.

As for the memory.

Unless you can find the exact same stick purchase new ones.

Also if both sticks you have are busted purchase new ones.

If you want to use a new one with your old one, you must make sure that the voltages and timings are the exact same.

Are you sure your memory is actually dead?

re: need help computer broke

I live in an apartment with no carpet or w/e so I don't have vacuum cleaners, I clean the traditional way- with a broom xP
I use 1 of the sticks because whenever i plug the other stick in, my computer gets a bluescreen and won't start up. It would suck to spend 100 something on new sticks.. i was thinking of buying this instead:
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820146788

Ok so i've never used a compressed air can before and I looked online, turns out I actually do know what it is and might have 1 lying around. So if the hairdryer doesn't work i'll get myself a can.
