External Display Blurry in Windows 7 |
|
Hey guys. I recently got my laptop back from the repair centre, and I decided to install Windows 7 onto it. Installed well, though it could not find my graphics card drivers by default. Because of this, I went onto Nvidia's site and downloaded the latest drivers for the 8600M GT in my laptop and installed them. I could use Aero after the reboot, and everything to do with the laptop's display is perfect; it's crisp and clear. The drivers I installed were 7-compatible.
Soon after I connected my laptop to my 24in BenQ LCD monitor, through a VGA port. On Vista the quality of display was just as good as that of the laptop's. However, on 7 the display is blurry. I've cloned the displays at the moment, so the monitor is running below its default resolution, though this shouldn't cause the issue, as under the same scenario on the Vista setup it was comparable. At the monitor's maximum resolution of 1920 x 1200, the display is a lot clearer, though it is still a little blurry (though it is far less noticeable). The moment I knock it down it gets really blurry again. I was wondering what I could do to sharpen the display. It's not a ClearType issue, as the blurriness extends to everything and not just the text. I've tried Googling for an answer but I can't seem to get anything which is of much help at all. As I've mentioned, this occurred the moment I switched to 7. Thanks in advance for the help. ------------------- ![]()

Right click your desktop
NVIDIA Control Panel Make sure you're on "advanced settings" On the left side, under Display, click Manage Custom Resolutions Click Create... make sure the Horizontal is set to 1920 and Vertical to 1200 (if you have a 1920x1200 display) hit Test, then if it works, click Yes. All done. Why does this happen? Because for some unknown reason, nvidia cards outputting through Win7 to an external monitor don't know how to output 1920x1200, or at least that's what I've experienced. The blurriness you see is because it's outputting a lower resolution and stretching it to 1920, but this method will force your graphics card to play nicely with your monitor. It took me like 3 days to figure this out. And yes, I created an account just to help you.
