Radeon 4870 and PSU questions |
|
hi im in the process of my first build and have a few questions...
if i get an xfx radeon hd 4870 1g do you think a corsair 400w would be ok.. i was also looking at the 650w. i just really liked the 400w's price itll be on a gigabyte 790gx mobo, phenom ii x3 720BE, and WD caviar black 640g hdd. this will all be in an antec 900(4 fans) i do plan on overclocking and eventually adding an additional 4870. i guess what im asking is.... would the 400w be enough and is it capable of powering another card in the future. ive been reading how the card requires two 6-pin slots but am unsure which psu will work with this.... plus another in the future. im on a budget but will wait and save if it means a better computer... just nothing overkill thanks alot

quoteno. the minimum is 450 watts, and you should always have a little more. a 500 watt psu would be best. if youre on a budget, this one will just suffice. however, i would suggest this because of its higher wattage support for only a little more money. if you want a second card, this will work perfectly. -------------------

Hii is pretty much correct.
Yes that 400W probably would power the system fine. However it's best to get at least a 550W and if you want to CrossFire in the future then 400W would not work.

there is also this one which i missed when looking before. same price as the OCZ 550watt after rebate, but has 30 watts more room.
