Going to Build (now I AM going to build) |
|
Ok. Before I build, does these things make a computer fast:
Hgih RAM Network Card (for internet) Hard Drive (is Hard Drive Disk the same thing as Hard Drive)? CD/DVD Drive Processor - Im thinking to put intel celeron quad processor (whatever the name is). And the thing that I'm worried about is the case. If I buy a case then will it support and hold the motherboard that I am going to buy? And what the chances of that not happening? ------------------- Need supply for your Pokemon Shop: WWW.POKMCREATER.WEEBLY.COM

What's your budget?
Are you going to be gaming or is it just normal usage like internet and word processing? FAST ram makes a computer faster, Having more ram than needed, like having 12gb is unnecessary and will not help you. Most people can easily go for 4gb without giving up any performance. What you want to look at though is the MHZ and timings (should look something like 5-5-5-15 to 9-9-9-27) You will not need a network card as motherboards come with onboard network ports. Buying one will not give you any boost in performance. Yes, hard drive and hard drive disk are the same thing. HDD is the abreviation for either. Your cd/dvd drive will not affect your performance but it will determine how fast you can install games from a cd or dvd. As for a processor, if you're doing any kind of gaming a celeron is the last kind of processor you want, it is only for the very low end computer. Intel currently only makes core2quad, i5, and i7 branded quad core processors. If you are gaming the two items that have the biggest affect on performance is your processor and your video card. Having a low end processor will usually limit a high end video card and a high end processor with a low end video card will not have as much detail in the games and will get low framerates. For a case the best choice is usually a mid tower ATX case. You can have a full tower case but it's unnecessary unless you have an extreme system, or very big hands as it allows for more room to work in. Mid tower ATX cases usually hold both M-atx and ATX motherboards but be sure to check and make absolutely sure. M-atx and ATX are the most common consumer motherboards. ------------------- Classic Gamer's Society Current Game - Lufia II Rise of the Sinistrals

EDIT: Forgot about the motherboard and processor. I can't find them on pcworld.co.uk, i know i can check at other stores but they dont have it.
EDIT: Just found them.. a bit expensive I suppose... Motherboard and Processor bundle: http://www.pcworld.co.uk/martprd/store/pcw_page.jsp?BV_SessionID=@@@@1811719015.1256759599@@@@&BV_EngineID=ccceadeijjmmlekcflgceggdhhmdfho.0&page=Product&fm=null&sm=null&tm=null&sku=521580&category_oid=-28009 is this intel celeron or intel celeron dual processor? ------------------- Need supply for your Pokemon Shop: WWW.POKMCREATER.WEEBLY.COM

thats because there is no such thing as a celeron quad core. and you will get more performance for your price by going for AMD. the processor i linked in the other thread is a great processor in terms of performance to price.

building, do doubt about it. that computer has no video card so they escape payments there, and are able to put in a cheaper and weaker power supply too. all that money is simply markup.

ok. So should I use the processor and motherboard you recommend to me or just use the one I found in pcworld? Btw, does more memory on the HDD make it more faster and is 320gb enough for a fast computer?

as mentioned numerous times, more hard disk space does not affect performance. and neither does more RAM (memory) if your computer doesnt need it.
regarding the hard drive, i cant say for sure how much you need because its different for different people. what habits do you have? do you download movies or games? do you have a lot of photos or videos? -------------------
