So I've had a cracked LCD for some time now and finally decided it was time to swap it out with a new screen. The old screen had a big crack in it but I could still see a little bit of image. I buy a replacement screen and put it in myself (I had heard that it was very easy). I take my old screen out and put the new screen in. I am extremely careful not to touch anything that shouldn't be touched. I hook it all up but when I power up I just see a blank white screen. So i think that I have bought a bad screen. Just to make sure nothing else is wrong I hook my old screen back up. When I power up the cracked LCD i get the same blank white display, now I know something is wrong on my computer. I am not sure what I could have fried since i was very careful and didnt touch anything. I talked to a few computer repair shops and they suggested buying a new ribbon video cable. So I buy that and it is still blank white. I reinstall motherboard and graphics drivers. I format my computer and reinstall windows. Still nothing. I am told that its probably one of two things: Somehow I fried the port on my motherboard for the LCD. Or I need to try and replace the inverter board for the screen. I am currently using a montior with the laptop, so I know its not a graphics problem. I'd go to a professional but they won't even tell me whats wrong with it unless I pay a lot of money, and there is telling how much it would cost to fix. With laptops going for under 500 these days maybe I should cut and run?
