AMD or Intel?

Basically I am going to buy a computer that's $1000 but I saw the same computer with a different processor (an AMD) for $200 cheaper.

INTEL® Core 2 Quad® Quad Core processor Q9400

AMD® Phenom® X4 Quad Core processor 9950

are the processors in question. Can anyone tell me why the price is much different?

I want the computer for gaming and everything else i.e photoediting, movies, music and the like.

@hiigaran - I'm not into OCing much, but how does an Intel OC better than an AMD? Do you mean Intel can OC higher with better heat management? Is intel more stable when it comes to OCing?
Saying Intel OC better is a huge misconception. Yes, the Intel chips are better due to their functionality and they have been superior over all, but saying they OC better is plain ignorance.

I look at it this way.

AMD cheaper price
Intel higher price

results: between the two some apps and programs zoom while others lag.


It really depends on what you want, if you would like to go with a single graphics card with a one PCIE slot motherboard with on-board graphics you can get a motherboard with a nForce chipset so you can have nVida hybrid graphics and go with a AMD chip, that will save you money and you can have the same performance if you were to get a higher end graphics card.

There is so many options out there now you really have to compare and research reviews. I use PartsPC site mostly for research it will help you get an idea on what is actually out there.

It also depends on the motherboard and other components. One could have a cheaper video card/motherboard/ram. If every thing else is the same, I'll bet the Intel would be slightly faster, but not very noticeably.
