I'll be honest. The CPU client takes 3 days to do a smaller work unit than a GPU does in 3 hours.
BUT... when your PC isn't doing anything, let it run. It helps the team's score. 53701 is the team we are on, join up, help out. It all counts. No damage will happen by letting it run 24/7. I've done it for 2 weeks in a row, non stop. ------------------- C2D e6420 @ 3.0ghz 4GB DDR2 @ 936mhz HD4870 512MB

They will never know it's running. If anything else needs the CPU, F@H throttles down and gives all other programs the CPU power they need. You can't even tell it's running. EDIT: Oh, they are the "turn it off at night" kind of people, I see. Well, I dunno what to tell ya there. I leave mine running 24/7, and my oldest has been for nearly 5 years. Nothing has ever fried.
BTW, courgan, I'm going to leave this running overnight. My 650W single 12v rail Corsair PSU is putting out lukewarm air, and my HD4870 isn't going over 64C after 45 minutes. I love the cooler ASUS put on this HD4870. Excellent design. And man, this HD4870 tears F@H up compared to my HD3850 and old 8800GTS 320MB (G80 core). ------------------- C2D e6420 @ 3.0ghz 4GB DDR2 @ 936mhz HD4870 512MB

Yeah, got it working. It folds like a beast compared to the 8800GTS. But nothing like the GTX285 you have, I'm sure.
During the days, it will fold on and off, because sometimes it gives bad WU's if someone games on it. My HD3850 doesn't have that problem, so that's odd. The HD3850 isn't folding until I get my motherboard though. ------------------- C2D e6420 @ 3.0ghz 4GB DDR2 @ 936mhz HD4870 512MB

quote Iceguy2003If you can, let FAH run for 2 days and see what your daily score is. I am interested to see how ATI cards do while folding. So far I am getting an average of 7200 points a day with my GTX285. Unfortunitly I have not had time to let my computer run all day everyday like I used to. quote Iceguy2003Don't you love it! I love the design of my card compared to my old 9800GX2. -------------------

quote RCM331I was lucky to hit 3200PPD with my 4850 overclocked like crazy. Ati just sucks for folding compared to nvidia. No contest.

re: Folding @ Home II |

the people at stamford say it does not have anything to do with the physx but nvidia gets ahead on the cuda.the way it runs the program thru cuda gives the nvidia line the edge for now,but ati has been working on it with the catalyst updates lately.

re: Folding @ Home II |

Ati needs a way to tap into the potential of all those unused shaders on their gpu's while running the F@H client. Which is why cuda is currently faster.
So yeah ATI's drivers arent built for folding yet. But gaming on the other hand..

I need to find the article but I did read that ATI has/coming out with something comparable to CUDA. So, if I read it correctly, we could see a big change.
