re: Folding @ Home II

Last night I decided to run FAH. And to my surprise, my GPU was not heating up past 72C. Just in case you are wondering, I have a 9800GX2, and it can get hot. Since we are having some cooler weather for the week, I will be running FAH as much as I can. And while I am at work today, I promise, that I will make my final decision on what case I am going to buy!

re: Folding @ Home II

welcome back and any help at all is good.
I am running the 260gtx and the side fan on my antec 900 hits the gpu right in the middle and helps to keep it cool.i run around 65 on my temps while folding.

re: Folding @ Home II

I looked at my temps before I came to work and it did shoot up to 84C which is not a surprise for me to see. I have a case that DOES NOT have a side fan to help bring in cooler air, Which sucks! Also my computer is in my loft, on the third floor of an apartment complex (There are only three floors). So the best thing I can do, is to buy a new case. So while I am at work for the next 7 hours, I will decide if I am going to get the HAF 932 or the ATCS, both are from CoolerMaster.

re: Folding @ Home II

Well after reading about 10 reviews, that all said the same thing, I have decided to buy the HAF 932 case. It wasn't a bad deal either. Newegg is selling it for $139.99 plus "while supplies last" there is also a promo code for and additional $15 off. So for $124.99 w/ free 2 day shipping, I couldn't pass it up. Once I put all the parts in this case I will give an update to my new temps, and see how much more airflow this case really has over my small 80mm fans.

It should be a big change.
We are treading water right now in the standings and could really use all the help we can get to improve.

re: Folding @ Home II

And honestly the big thing that kept me from ordering the case was the fact that the HAF does not have any dust filters. I can see how some people may not care but from experience, they help a lot. But anything I can do to help!

re: Folding @ Home II

Well it looks like we are now moving up the ranks again. At this rate in about 3 weeks we will break the 900 mark. All we need is a couple of more machines to help us out and we should be climbing the ranks in no time!

re: Folding @ Home II

For some reason FAH is telling me that I have reached the 24 hour limit. Let me know if anyone else has seen this. I can't imagine that I am folding that many work units.

If we can just get 2 more people folding 24x7 for a month, our team will sky rocket up the ranks.

never seen that before.
I wonder if the members that are folding with the uniprocessor program know about the gpu program. It seems like a waste tome to fold for 2 days and only get 225 points for it.

re: Folding @ Home II

i think i might just start folding too. however, i have one question - suppose i get another computer - do i lose my history of folding on this computer? or is this a typical user name and password based program?

re: Folding @ Home II

username and password.
you can use the same username and passkey for 16 units.each unit is either 1 cpu or 1 gpu.
the smp core programs for the cpu get more points than the others, followed closely by the gpu.but you get more points per day off of the gpu.it takes between 16-24 hrs for a smp to finish on my q9550,and 1.5-4hrs for the gpu to run 1 unit of work.

re: Folding @ Home II

sweet. well ill be sure to install this on my computer when i get the chance.

EDIT: ok its installed, and everything seems to be going fine. however, whats the difference between the normal and high performance versions?

EDIT2: ok ive had it running for about an hour now, and i still dont see that it has done anything. when i hover over the systray icon, it started off (and is till) at 0/500. its saying that its working, and i see CPU activity via task manager, but is it supposed to take this long? This is my CPU. as you can see, its quite old, but should it be going at this speed?

EDIT3: never mind, its gone up to 5/500 now.

the high perfomance is where you get the gpu and smp versions.
sounds like you installed the uniprocessor version.it is slow and gets the fewest points.
