Laptop Overheating When Playing a Game? |
|
So, recently, I bought a game from Steam, which is Worldwide Soccer Manager 2009. But, after I played it for two hours or so, my laptop starts to shutting down. This is not a problem with other programs, nor the previous edition of the games, because if I didn't play the game, my laptop goes normal.
So, is there any way to prevent the overheating? It's starting to piss me off. I have 3GB ram, I thought it was enough for this game, since it only needed 1 GB or something. ._. ------------------- ![]() EYE AM THE SMARTEST EYE CAN SPELL EYE ROW NEE

How do you know its over heating, and not another problem? Is the laptop getting really hot during use, and the fan spinning at full speed? Try propping the back of it up about an inch or so so it gets more ventilation.

Your laptop completely turning off indicates that the game is excessively stressing the CPU. While RAM does play a major part of multi-tasking and the such, the CPU is the main factor. You need to check the specs of the game and find out what Processing Power to play the game comfortably. Most laptops don't have a high end Processing Power and they average about at 1.8 GHz or 2.0 GHz which is hardly enough for gaming.
If it turns out that your laptop can handle the game, then you could either try what The Slayer mentioned and if the problem still persists then it's time to open that baby up and clean out the fan inside. You might also consider buying a cooling system for you laptop. Worse case scenario if you continue to play your game like this is that you'll fry your laptop and it'll cease to function. Repairing it will be a bitch. ------------------- ![]()

i'm sorry for my lack knowledge of hardware, but the reason why i said it's overheating is because my laptop shuts down suddenly after playing this game. it didn't happen when i didn't play other games, it always happened while i'm playing this game.
anyway, here's the game's system requirement: Processor: XP: 1.4GHz or Faster / Vista: 2.0GHz or Faster Supported Processors: Intel Pentium 4, Intel Core, AMD Athlon Memory: XP: 512MB RAM / Vista: 1.0GB RAM Hard Drive Space: 2GB DVD-Drive: 4x Speed Video Card: 128MB (Nvidia FX 5900 Ultra or greater; ATI Radeon 9800 or greater; Intel 82915G/82910GL or greater. Earlier cards may only display 2D Match) Sound Card: DirectX 9.0c compatible Directx: Version 9.0c (included) LAN: TCP/IP compliant and this is nmy spec: ![]() ------------------- ![]() EYE AM THE SMARTEST EYE CAN SPELL EYE ROW NEE

It happens too me alot,
If your on Vista, its the same problem as me. My Wlan internet randomly disables, because my laptop gets too hot. The way to overcome it; Keep your laptop on a table or somewhere where the fan can get through, Because if its on your lap or on some kind of fabric, it cant pass it. ------------------- Malibu&Coke.

Try buying a laptop fan, they can act as a stand and have a built in fan which keeps the bottom of the laptop cool, and with your vent most likely being located on the bottom it a good idea to get some circulation down there.

Alot of games nowadays are CPU intensive. there;s a few way to help remedy the situation. Maybe turn down some of the settings so that yout CPU isn't getting hammered. Also, get better ventilation. You mentioned that you are already using a fan laptop thingy. Maybe the fan isn't strongenough to cool the CPU, or the ventilation is being blocked...

I bought a Gateway "gaming" laptop with high end graphics card just so my son could play games like that. Same thing happens. He gets 15 minutes into and it shuts down. The only way he's able to play is to put a small table fan behind the laptop and point the air stream directly into the rear vent port, then he's able to play indefinitely. We tried 2 of the most expensive laptop fans and neither came close to generating enough cool air to do the job. Still searching for another solution, but until then, he plays with a sweatshirt on cause the fan gets cold :-)

Try putting icepacks under the fan pad it should drop your cpu temp a few degrees. I used this method to play Crysis for hours at a time on my laptop.

Get a can of compressed air and blow out the heat sink. Just did this to my laptop the other day, and it got a decent amount of dust out.

it may be necessary to open it up and clean out the exhaust and any other place prone to dust. i did this with a laptop my grandparents owned, and i removed dust with the density of the kind of lint found in washing machines.
