I started playing this game again not long ago. I don't know how many people still play this game and whether anyone will read this. I wanted to say that I got fed up with using the usual decks. So now I'm actually trying to create decks based on themes and also specific effects, such as first attack and eat-up hp. And I don't really like to use sevens cards now since it makes the game repetitive and boring.
I know that the usual themes are pure elements, and this is what I feel about them. I hope to receive comments and suggestions on the types and decks for different themes.
Fires are awesome to use at first, high attack, lots of favourite digimons, etc. But then I got bored with the usual fire tactics, and fire decks to me usually lacks certain synergy that makes it perfect. Their hp are too weak at certain moments, so to me a pure fire deck was never a good choice. I usually mix it with ice for defense or nature to speed up digivolving. And one of my favourites, Aquilamon is buggy.
As for Ice, I like the fact that it can be invincible with Garurumon + Golden Banana, and also patience. But I don't really like to play a pure defensive strategy. And I doesn't have many favourite Ice digimons. I like the Seadramon family, but I feel their usefulness are limited and slightly buggy, especially the U s.
Nature are fast digivolvers, yet my favourites, again, are yet buggy cards (Veedramon family!!! Why?!!Sometime you work, but most of the time you fail!!). For me most of them are a bit weak in attacks, only useful in stacking dps, except for the Beetles. Beetles have attacks similar to fire types, Tentomon to me is the best rookie other than partners. Most beetles has no support, so their main purpose it to fight, or straight to DP pile. Because most of the time, I'll keep cards that have good supporting effects, and struggles to see which is better to keep and which is better to increase DP, Beetles simplify things. So to me they are better without supporting effects.
I never understands the main purpose of dark, their effects have a very wide range and too much negative effects that I feel it loses it main focus and a bit hard to use. The R, C and U levels focused on different aspects. But most of their U s are the strongest, so if you managed to digivolve into a U, then it's awesome. High risk and high payoff, and it takes time and patience to digivolve to Apokarimon or Diaboromon without resorting to use Download Digivolve. And to gamble the unknown cards either brings good news or disasters. For me who like to gamble the cards, dark was not my choice, until a deck came out.
Rare is good with crashing, which will destroy almost all decks without fail. Poop decks has it's purpose, but a bit slow in doing it's job, usually the poop dies before doing any significant discarding from opponent's deck. I actually wanted to create an offensive deck since it has a few good offensive ones like the mamemon family, but it's still in testing stage since I find the rookie and champion choices are a bit limited, and fire always looks better in executing the job. Probably because I'm still not used to using a Rare deck except for crashing yet. And I want to mention, puppetmon why puppetmon, you look so weak!
There's Eat-Up Hp deck, which looks promising, but I remember someone mentioned that a dark Eat-up deck can't withstand offensive fire decks, especially magnamon's deck, but I managed to create one that can defeat most AI decks, including Magnamon. And it became one of my favourite deck since. For nature ones, I find it hard to create one with a good synergy when it lacks a Champion digimon that can Eat-Up Hp. It's like it needs some other strategy to bridge the gap in between R and U, and C is the level that I usually spend most time in.
Then there's 1st attack deck, looks good, and there's one WIP deck for me. And I feel I need to sacrifices defense for fire power to put it into good use. Now the deck kills fast and die fast. Most of the time wins the game by 3 wins-2 losses. And a few buggy cards made it worse (Yes I'm looking at Aquilamon and VeedramonS). I'll need some suggestions on whether to stick more on fire or nature.
Jamming looks good on theory, but I think it follows a certain sequence on which card take effects 1st and it makes jamming less useful on a practical sense. If I'm not wrong, waruseadramon fails for quite a number of times for me. I hope someone can shed some light on this jamming thing.
Quick digivolving for nature is ok, but a bit weak offensively, I always laugh at AI digivolving into J-mojyamon, because it's offensively weaker than a rookie. It's better to use it as support than to digivolve into it. Still it's quite powerful at the earlier stage. Whereas Guardromon+Infermon or Warp+Infermon sometimes work, but they die a bit fast, I still need some adjustments to make it work better. Flarizamon works in early stage, but no useful X attack makes it unable to defend on it's own when you have no defensive option cards in hand (I face this quite often in a full offensive fire deck, Flarizamon dies easily when facing stronger opponents.)
There are a few useless themes, like the revive ones, which render Phoenixmon and Myotismon a bit useless (Why? Both of them look so cool!). Why die when you should be killing? And also x3 decks, since they only have a really really specific use, though they works.
Regarding R, C and U support. Rookies usually has the best support, or should I say, the most direct one. U s supports are limited and has lots of restrictions that made me feel like removing them from decks at certain times. For example, Wargreymon and Omnimon, they are awesome, but the support is lacking when compared to let's say, Biyomon. Probably they want you to not use them so you can wait until you have chance to digivolve?
I apologise that it's a bit long but there's too much thought going on in my mind. And thanks for anyone who reads until here. If anyone wanted me to post some of my theme decks, I would gladly post it. And I would like to see what others think about the usefulness of the theme decks. And how does your theme deck work?
