i agree with you that this is hypocritical if they are both equally as damaging to society to have one legal and one illegal, but if they are both bad for society then for me the the answer to this hypocritical state isn't to legalise cannabis

i.e. cannabis is illegal and alcohol is as bad as cannabis so its logical to make alcohol illegal

exact same logic you use just the other way around

idealism vs practicality

in an ideal world government(s) would make alcohol illegal, but this clearly isn't practical, and as even i drink sometimes i don't think even i would support this law being made, people just wouldn't accept it (me included ) but to then say because it isn't practical to make alcohol illegal that means its only right that cannabis should be legal isn't an argument i am willing to go along with for the reasons i have all ready stated and because my ideal is that if something is bad for society it should be illegal, and there is no practicality issues in making cannabis illegal
