North Korea...anyone else getting anxious??

India:
1. India is not ruled by a crazy despot. It is the world's largest democracy.
2. The United States is cutting a nuclear deal with that very NPT violator.
3. India just underwent a massive terrorist attack recently. If it was Al-Qaeda, you can bet that point #2 (above) had something to do with prompting the attack.

North Korea:
1. Is surrounded by China and Russia; both rather hefty nuclear powers.
2. Is dirt poor. Even Pyangyong is poor, as far as we know.
3. Is unstable in many ways (thanks in large part to point #2 above).

Personally, I'm not that worried about the DPRK. I'd be more worried about the Islamic Republic of Iran gaining nuclear weapons, because Muslim radicals are more savage and hazardous (in my opinion) to the West and her allies than even his supremacy, Kim Jong-il, might ever be.

Ok serriously, what the hell is North Koreas problem? why do they hate America so much? what did America do to them? will somebody please enlighten me on this?

Not to mention every other country int he world Hates the USA.

Seriously though, as you can see on this map, unless you live in Alaska or maybe the far reaches of B.C., Washington or Oregon... there's no real danger to North Americans from Kim Jong-il. Heck, even Australia looks closer to the DPRK.

In the globalising world of today, with proliferation of nuclear technology from people like Khan, not to mention more porous borders in certain ares, the scenario of a radical Islamist group in jihad-mode obtaining a nuclear weapon from a sympathetic so-called Islamic republic (for use in Israel or other Western states) is a scarier prospect.

Should the Mideast situation escalate that far, things shall get interesting indeed... Russia does have its problems, what with the things you mentioned and Putin's apparent problem with freedom of the press and other aspects of Democracy...

North Korea is a problem with its missile capability, and has the potential to destabilize that region, if not cause serious damage.

Kim Jung Ill (SP) is a mad man... but I don't think he is crazy enough to actually use nuclear weapons against america........

Fine. But all of you should remember it's not the DPRK that breeds terrorism and terrorist cells that want to destroy your way of life. Did anyone even bother to look at the map I linked? I have the feeling people didn't. Otherwise they would have seen that the DPRK is not as strategically placed for action in world affairs as Iran is, at the moment. Not to mention it still has an iron curtain which makes it even more isolationist. Cruise missile tests and such are ways it uses to get attention, because that's the only way its foreignt policy will allow for, given these facts. Also, before the six nations talks stalled out in November (I think) the DPRK was busy trying to negotiate for aid (which it needs desperately) and a light-water reactor. Needless to say, I think you guys are wrong about the threat that the DPRK posed next to Iran, but whatever.

As for randomly changing the topic to Russia... are you serious? This is not the Cold War. The Russian Federation has nukes, yes, but so does the United States, France, the United Kingdom, and China (the P5). The Russian Federation is a member privy to the NPT. Other known nuclear powers are not (ie. Pakistan, India). Let's remain in reality here. Russia is not what it once was, nor is it a hopeless cause. I can understand how Putin gets a lot of bad press, but if you actually bother to talk to Russians, you might be surprised to find them praising the man, not to mention wishing for him to be a bit more authoritarian. Many Russians still remember (some longingly) the day when everything came directly from the top, regulating and organising their lives and giving them jobs and other socialist 'benefits'.
