good, that clears things up greatly. your argument is that a zygote is a member of our species and that all members of our species must be allowed to live (unless under certain contexts, of course) is sound enough. OK, now that this has been cleared up then i guess i cannot call you a hypocrite, as you are not simply opposed to abortion but to the killing of anything that is a member of our own species, fair enough.

the problem is that you have yet to explain why you feel it is wrong to kill something that is a member of the human species. this is great because i don't believe you could argue that a zygote or fetus is a human being. if you believe there is some value in simply belonging to our human species then i would love to hear it. i'd really like to know why a zygote or fetus has more of a right to life than my cat. heck, i won't fool myself; i know why we feel a fetus has a right to life but i would like to see you, or anyone else for that matter, defend it with logic.

But a fetus has potential to and will become a human being, a natural process that you cannot disagree with, provided it is cared for and delivered properly. The child can grow up to be somebody important, or it can live and change the course of the future more smally, or maybe the child will just grow up and be happy that his parent was kind enough, wise enough, to give him a chance at life even though it was beyond her capabilities to look after him. His creation and existence may have been the result of his mother's carelessness, but he still is alive, and he still has the oppurtunity to live.

In reply to your earlier post Algernon, if we were to look at a fetus with the cold, emotionless analysis of a scientist examining a rat, then to kill it or not is simply a whim.

However, we are not cold, emotionless beings. People can be conditioned to be cold and emotionless, but do not start out that way. As a side note, it is unfortunate that logic and reasoning tend toward coldness and emotionlessness. We feel naturally that killing anything is wrong, but people become desensitized as they get older, and bury their feelings. We shouldn't kill these babies because it is wrong according to the morals we all have, even those that have forgotten them or ignore them. Wrong, simple as that.
Of course, I would point toward the Bible for reasons for these feelings and our inherent morals, but this isn't the thread for that.

P.S. There are exceptions to inherent morality of course, such as the mentally challenged, mentally deranged, etc. Those don't count.
