I know that one word responses are frowned upon here but this thread seems more like gathering information rather than provoking discussion.

How did the US become a dominant power? WWII, basically. Well, first off, geopolitically speaking the US is one of very few countries that has complete coastal access to the two largest oceans- namely the Pacific and the Atlantic. So that plays an enormous part in the US's wealth in trade. Additionally it lacks any serious threat of invasion or total war. Who's gonna invade us with actual hostility? Mexico? So the oceans double as trade boosters as well as natural defense. Now, look at our presence after WWII, where we were the only nation to come out with immense wealth, military presence globally, the brightest scientific minds of that century, and nukes. That's a formula for long-term global influence. Granted, we're beginning to see a decline in our tenure of the brightest minds, and we're no longer the only ones with nukes; but we are still indisputably in control of the oceans and skies. We have 11, going on 12 air craft carriers, which is 10 more than most other countries possess. They're incredibly expensive to construct, and they allow us to put planes and forces anywhere in the world within an hour.

I'd say those are the primary factors governing US dominance.

US China relations are improving but incredibly complex. China continues to be a systematic violator of human rights. Forced abortions, egregious censorship, etc. are still common practice. They also defend nations like North Korea, which they have unique power and responsibility to influence positively. They continue to expand their arsenal and engage in mercantilist policies to secure their influence enormously in the region and in the world. For example they often force companies who wish to sell goods or trade with China to base their factories there. It's actually to the point where a lot of US weapons parts are manufactured in China, which poses an immense cyber-security threat. According to the DoD China-US cyber-security report, some 15% of weapons manufactured in China had Trojans embedded in the firmware that would cause them to misfire as if it were an accident.

Anyway, that's a lot of questions, each of which have books written exclusively to answer them.

If factories and companies are doing bad, is it the democratic government or the republican government who interferes?
