Because you are bored/lonely seems to be a common theme in 'god' superstitions. It is a human characteristic applied to our assumed origin. Man in his immage could simply be the reflection of the same characteristic. The romans and the indian gods are far clearer this with their soap opera type personifications applied to the characters in their stories. Man creating god in their immage with a drematic flair. There is no reason that god has to be anything like us at all, let alone male if he is like us. That is simply human pride and vanity speaking.

Do unto others as you would have them do unto you. Hurting your neighbor hurts god etc etc. The notion that one soul is everyone isn't far off from what the bible teaches from a certain persepective. I mean by that if you knew you were everyone you certainly would treat yourself much better. In turn you would be much more devout.

The Bible (Old Testament) teaches humans to be subservient to an angry deity, and to kill all who do not worship that deity.

That is rather at odds to the concept of treating all humans well.

Religious comonality and over all goals... The path to civilization and enlightenment is one that overcomes self servitude for the greater social good. Above all else love thy neighbor as thyself. - JC I am convinced that this is why society has embraced religion as a whole. If I doubted the existanced of A GOD or creator then I would also say it was designed this way.
