What is the Meaning of Life to you? - Page 5

My drive in life is knowledge. I am always searching up information that is on my mind at whatever given moment. There are so many secrets and possibilities out there, it's like I was born to figure them out.

But along with everything else in life, there are distractions. Parties, alcohol, drugs, friends, whatever. They're distractions all the same, and when I partake in certain things like going to a party and getting messed up, I have fun but at the same time it's an empty feeling inside. When I'm learning something new and interesting to me, It's like I'm so focused and concentrated. Honestly, that is more fun to me than drinking my problems away.

So to answer the question, my "meaning" or "purpose" in life is to learn as much as I can. I also love sharing the information I know, but I don't like to spread false information. I usually research and proof read what I say when I'm "teaching" someone about something.

I think that having just one focus or one strict meaning to one's life is silly. There are lots of things that can give life meaning, so why simply focus on one thing?

For me, knowledge and gaining understanding is a big one. I really, really like biology and particularly the understanding of how the human body works. That fascination leaks into other branches of science, chemistry in particular, but I primarily have a boner for bio. I'm seeking eventual admission to medical school because gaining that understanding, and moreover learning how the body can be manipulated to avoid complications of disease processes and ways around disease processes entirely is something I find too fascinating not to pursue. That's the primary thing that gives my life direction and meaning. In particular, the understanding of the role that virii play in our physical development is of interest to me. I think there are many discoveries to be made regarding how a virus functions, and being a researcher trying to understand some of those processes would be meaning enough for me. My purpose is to gain understanding of these things, and perhaps teach them to others as education's another thing that I thoroughly enjoy.

That said, I do have other goals as well. The pleasure principle definitely factors into all of my goals, particularly my goal of simply having a comfortable life outside my work. I eventually want to have a companion as well, because having comfort with someone else is nice in and of itself. I'm indifferent to a family, I suppose I would want one eventually but there seem to be just as many down sides to parenting as there are positives so that's not a driving goal for me, and I certainly don't see a family or companion alone as something that brings meaning so much as enhances meaning.

KR_1250 Eh, I have a positive outlook in spite of a lot of things. As much as it's hard not to dwell on the negatives, it's ultimately far more productive to make do with what you do have or can do than it is to regret what you couldn't achieve. So I try to do that.

What, me personally? Well I can't stand kids, so it isn't that.

Eating chocolate, cuddling kittens and playing video games?

Pretty much things I enjoy, yeah.

Do I believe in love? Of course, it's a human emotion. It exists. I'm not sure I'm personally suited to being in a relationship though.

There does not have to be a point.

Being capable of, what we think is, intelligent thought does not necessarily mean that there is a point to us. Life might seem more straight forward if there was, however.

I really don't think that life has a meaning, or whatever the gives a sentient person meaning. For Misty it's science, and I like that a lot (cure cancer! just kidding). <- I'm more into astronomy and physics (stuff I don't think I'm up for really...). I'm just getting out into the world, and I don't know where I'll go, and even if I go into a scientific field >.> ... I got to get into a college first.I hope I add something to humanity even if it is just a little.

I think you mentioned that the universe has a fixed future. I was hoping if you could elaborate on it? it sounds interesting.

To me, it is a completely subjective. I wrote a blog on the topic somewhere... It has been a while since I have read it but it basically states that the meaning of life changes from person to person based on their beliefs, faiths, mental state, and experiences.
