Well the protesters probably didn't ask for the security. I don't know for sure, but based on how police have treated them in other cities, it seems unlikely. You should blame whoever made the decision to send cops.

I believe that the security is there against Wall Street, not for them. As in, to protect interests or something.

In any case, DaKiNg5343 that cost is with any protests that occur. It just so happens that OWS is much bigger than a normal protest, and that they need to accommodate for it. We're already how much in debt? I don't think that it would be a problem if they actually do enact change.

Honestly, i don't even know where these people come from. I lived in Philly for 18 years, and I can tell you for sure that most of the protesters aren't even from Philly. And if cops weren't there, and vandalism and violence were to occur, it would open a whole new can of worms.

Oh yeah, the city had to up property taxes by 10% to fund the school district, then we had to give the superintendent $1 million severance. How long has teh protest been going on 3 weeks? that's already $2 million from a cash strapped city.

Everywhere is 'cash-strapped'. There are also many more movements everywhere- Rome, Boston, etc. Their numbers may not be as significant as Rome's or New York's, but they're something.

They're definitely in danger. Case and point:

I had seen this first on Hufffington, but they're a bit too left for my taste. Fortunately, some more media have picked up the story, CNN in particular though they've also been lambasted as being biased...it leaves no doubt that this happened:

Cops are also becoming abusive in other cities as well, arresting who they see fit for really flimsy reasons. Don't we have a right to free assembly in this country?

Also some hypocrisy...the government supports all of the 'Arab Spring' protests and even sends in money to depose Gaddafi and yet its own states' governments try to muffle protests within its borders? Consistency at its finest.

Regardless of what they're advocating, it's no cause for getting treated like animals for exercising a Constitutional right. This isn't Iran last I checked.

Except that to get qualifications for new jobs such as teaching, you sort of need two degrees. 85k a year, eh? That is obviously locale-based and hardly representative for every teaching job, presuming that that 'fact' is referring to teaching.

I love how the slip of paper completely ignores the important facts such as rising costs of living and inflation compared to unemployment and companies cutting jobs.

I do love the statement though, it really conveys a message that there are people out there willing to accept slave labor-like conditions.

I'm impressed with this movement and the police brutality is only helping their case. My Philosophy professor has been discussing this movement and the Oakland violence from police.

^That was thrown out the window of the Chicago Board of Trade by a worker. Fully agree with it and it's about the best thing I've read pertaining to the Occupy Movement.

Probably written by a moron who thinks occupy wall street is about raging against the peon traders and seems to believe working on wall street automatically qualifies you to pick up any other "cushy" profession.

The note is ridiculous. I love how it addresses NONE of the corruption that has overtaken the financial sector in the last decade and basically implies that everyone below their level is stupid.

The note conveniently forgot to address the fact that the protest is targeting mainly the BAD side of Wall Street. You're not going to tell me every broker, investor and CEO is honest, as the note makes it sound. Some of them are just as, if not scummier than government officials these days. It's why government and Wall Street work so well together.

A copy of the note should be burned at every rally. It is exactly that selfish attitude that caused this mess in the first place.

I welcome the financial elite to take over middle-class jobs. Many of us work long hours...but we don't do it on the 27th floor of a glass high-rise with a cherry maplewood desk. I'd like to suggest perhaps...plumbing? You know, toilets have to run in this society. Electrician? Gotta keep the business running, right? Garbagemen, who are actually paid pretty well despite the dirty job at hand? We need them too.

The thing is that police brutality doesnt have anything to do with the movement at all, so I am not really sure what you are getting at. It may provide sympathy, but it doesn't change the overall ridiculous ideology in play with the protests. People don't see the police brutality and suddenly decide they agree with the occupy movement. Of course, they likely will just become more and more angry with police in general, leading to more civil unrest because the people don't trust the police.

The anger is justifiable. The police abuse definitely has a bias to it...when was the last time cops used tear gas and shot up vets at a Tea Party rally?
