Death scares the bejesus outta me D: - Page 4

There's no sense worrying about death. Death is an inevitability; you can't avoid it, so why waste a moment of life worrying about it?

As far as an afterlife goes, who knows? Most of you posting here seem to believe there is no afterlife, that we just stop existing when we die. Well, that may be so, but the truth is nobody knows whether or not there is an afterlife. Science teaches us that you can't prove a negative, therefore you can't prove there is no afterlife any more than you can prove that there is one. However, there is evidence, however tenuous or circumstantial, for the existence of an afterlife of some kind...near-death experiences, supernatural phenomenon, and the long-held beliefs of nearly all cultures/religions worldwide suggest that there is something beyond death. Afterlife or not, neither can be proven. However, I believe that consciousness is energy, and science teaches that energy cannot be created or destroyed, it can only change forms...what form might consciousness take after death?

I'm not particularly religious, but I do believe there must be something beyond this life, this existence we share.

People have lived to 117, and with the advancement in technology and pills we could prolong it to 120-130ish. So stay healthy, stay fit, enjoy life and you might as well get lucky.

If you have actually read the Bible, you would know that you have a 99.9% chance of going to heaven. Maybe next time you join a religion, join it for what it represents, not because you get a one-way pass to heaven--which I'm sure you wont get.

Honestly one of the scariest part is in fact it is guarenteed this will happen one day. Whether we like it or not, we will die. We'll end up not living for eternity, and that thought is what drives the nail in for me. The more I think about it, the more I think we do have an afterlife, because I don't think our lives will be wasted like that.

I like to believe all matter is energy. And that after our spirit leaves the body and the body becomes as inanimate as the chair you're sitting in, than we move our energy to a new form of existence. You have within in you, an everlasting spirit. And once your physical body dies, you are either reincarnated, or you move on to the next "level" of the "game". Depending on how well you "played". Pain is temporary. And the pain of death may seem like hours of torture, it will stop, and you will be born again.

That's my belief, and I hope it somewhat soothes your fear. Think about if you had been born, and no one was around to tell you what death is.. When it finally came, you wouldn't be afraid of it, because you wouldn't have been spending your life building up fear in anticipation of dying.

Live your life. Love those who love you. Do positive things and make small, but subtle impacts on the world around you. You're more powerful then you believe. And remember, death is only the beginning.

I disagree with the point of view that life is a waste because it has to end. Why do you think that?

Well I don't think our lives are a waste, at least during out lifetime. But what positive outcome will come from our human species? What positive effect do we go? Yes, I might've directly or indirectly helped the quality of life of someone, but what next? That'll propogate until we all die, then what?

Nothing. In fact, the human species has arguably had a devastatingly negative impact on the planet.

All you can do is enjoy your life while you can, and make others enjoy their lives more (animals too). :-)

Call me naive but, personally, I think fearing death is a very bad idea. I've feared death a few times in my life and it has always spiraled me down towards depression. Anymore, I enjoy my life to the fullest and am rather carefree. Sometimes to the point where it could be considered reckless self endangerment (I would never knowingly and willingly endanger anybody else, though)

It's natural to be scared of death. We'd all be pretty screwed without a strong sense of self-preservation. My dad dying when I was 16 messed me up a bit and as a result I'm a bit of a hypochondriac, but at the end of the day I don't want to waste my life worrying about becoming sick because eventually, i will, and there's no preventing that.

I use to worry about death, then I thought to myself life is too short to worry about such things. Nothing lasts forever.
