Not my point. My point is, I'd rather the drug labs remain in mexico, and not move in next door to me, where I have to worry about my life and the lives of my family if the drug cartels decide we've seen too much, or we live too close, or I have to tell my future children they can't play outside because we have a drug lab next door, or sleep with my matress on the floor just in case their competition decide to shoot up the neighborhood. So when it comes to the lesser of two evils, drugs being grown in mexico then snuck over the border, or drugs being grown in the US right next door to me, I'll take the mexican drug cartels.

Cartels that work within our borders are our problem, cartels that don't, are someone else's. There are Americans that are hungry, and Mexicans that are hungry. The hospitals also have to invest in lawyers for those doctors, and for themselves if the patient sues the hospital instead. The reason hospitals are going bankrupt and closing down has everything to do with american sense of entitlement and greed and nothing whatsoever to do with a mexican immigrant who spends two hours in the waiting room so a low level peon can spend five minutes setting and casting his broken arm, prescribe some vicodon, and send him on his way.

Ok, and as far as the arizona law goes. Yes, it expressly forbids racial profiling. But a law that punishes law enforcement officers who fail to investigate suspected illegals (when we all know the only illegals we have are coming from mexico) is going to do nothing but encourage racial profiling. I don't really give a shit what the law says, because I know, and you know, that when the day comes, that cop is not going to pull John over and ask for his green card, and he's not going to pull Latoya over and ask for her green card, he's going to pull jose over, and that is racial profiling. We shouldn't alienate the immigrants who HAVE come here legally, by submitting them to constant racial profiling and harassment by law enforcement officers who are being encouraged to go above and beyond to investigate illegal immigration, at the possible cost of their jobs.

Actually, children born in the US would learn english on their own. Personally though, Cinamon, I do agree with Guardian Griffin about Affirmative action laws. They screw the *bleep* out of white male job applicants who may or may not be better qualified for the job they are applying for, but stand no chance of getting the job because they are not:
a) women
b) a minority
Not only would I allow that affirmative action in and of itself is completely unconstitutional since it necessitates excluding a person from being hired based on race (but in this case its the white person being excluded), but it's just plain bullshit besides. People should be hired on the merit of their ability; boosting your minority demographic in the workplace should never be a factor.

If the US government wants to help african americans pull themselves out of decades of inherited poverty, the solution is not to coddle them by making it easier to get government benifits (which just encourages them to remain poor and never better themselves), and provide them with jobs that they don't have to work hard to get or keep (which allows them to never have to work hard for anything in their lives). That just perpetuates bad stereotypes. If minorities want a fair chance in capitalism, they should work for it, not have it handed to them.

Disclaimer: I do not necessarily find minorities at fault for the crap the US government pulls. You can't really blame someone, who's been poor their entire lives, for accepting government handouts when it means getting fed, or taking a job based on boosting minority demographics in the workplace, when it means paying rent.

Ok I've had a couple of weeks to really think about this issue, and I need to say some things.

1) Hispanics are hardly the only uninsured demographic in the united states. In fact, as far as sheer numbers go, that honor belongs to caucasians. If hospitals are closing due to uninsured patients not paying their bills, it is not due to that 10-14% of the population that makes up legal/illegal hispanic immigrants, it's because people simply cannot afford health care. There may be a hospital closing in California that can claim that a majority of their uninsured patients are hispanic, but that's only because a majority of their patients are hispanic. There's obviously a heavy latino population. If you believe that poverty is inherited to a neighborhood, then it's safe to say if the latino population moved out and poor white people moved in, we would still see hospitals closing down. Only then it wouldn't be a race issue, it would be a social class issue (look at all these dirty lazy poor people too stupid and ignorant to get insurance. They're causing hospitals to close down.) My point being that you are immigration status when immigration has NOTHING to do with it. It's a poverty issue. It just happens that the people frequenting that hospital happen to be hispanic and poor, instead of white and poor. This is a failure of our health care system, NOT a failure of immigration policy.

What do you expect Carlos to do, when his child breaks his arm? Or if his wife develops cancer? If if carlos gets hurt in a home accident and he's bleeding, do you expect him to just roll over and die? I guess that would be the honorable thing to do. Since he can't afford insurance, and can't pay his hospital bill, it would be dishonorable to take advantage of our great nation's amazing wealth. He should just bleed out.

2) The cost of legal immigration to the US. is at minimum anywhere between 1500-2000 dollars. In processing paperwork you can expect to wait anywhere between six months to two full years to get here. To a poor mexican, 2000 dollars is a years wages. When you can't even afford what you have, how are you expected to pay such an exhorbitant fee to come legally to the US? How is an uneducated hispanic immigrant, who was too poor to go to a proper school, who had to drop out early to work at an early age, to help his father make ends meet so his family wouldn't starve to death, who is basically uneducated supposed to fill out the mountains of paperwork in triplicate being given to him by the US immigration office? He also has to get vaccinations for his whole family, which requires a trip to the ONE US doctor setting up shop in mexico. He may have to cross his entire country to see this doctor, and without being able to afford transportation, how is he expected to do this?

Also consider this. In mexico, crime is probably the best paying business. Outside of inherited aristrocracy (AKA people born into wealthy families who have owned all of the countries wealth for the last 400 years) the only people with any real money are drug lords. If you aren't a drug lord, you're dirt poor. Who we should be wary about letting into the US aren't the poor people who can't afford legal immigration, but the ones who can. Because most likely they are drug dealers.

There is very little opportunity to advance oneself in mexico. If you are born poor, you will most likely die poor. Crime is a big problem. Drug cartels own massive amounts of the wealth. When Propaganda reaches their ears about how great the US is, how wonderful the land of infinite opportunity is, how diverse and accepting of other people we are, how anybody can be anything they want to in america, reaches their ears, is it any wonder they will do anything to escape poverty to come here? If you want to blame an issue for rampant illegal immigration, blame american attitudes and propaganda. If we didn't advertise how !@#$ing great we were, we wouldn't have everyone and their third cousin doing whatever they had to to get here.

3)Compassion people! I get that in your monkeysphere comprised of rednecks as dumb as you are, it's easy to get caught in "americans first" attitudes. But that's no excuse to watch your brother suffer and to turn a blind eye because god forbid you should have to share a small portion of your wealth with him!
Lets put it this way. There is a fence between you and your neighbor. Every day you bask in wealth and comfort, throwing away more food than your neighbor is even able to put on his table. You watch him every day suffer, trying to feed his family. You can literally see him sitting there in his little hovel of a home. The land on your side of the fence is bountiful. The soil is nutrient rich and you are able to grow great crops. His land is arid and barren. He asks if he can just come live on a small portion of your land and farm it. He'll work hard and earn his keep, fixing up stuff around the house, for less than enough pay to live on. You think that's fair, but first he has to pay you roughly 2000.00 in application fees and doctor appointments to get vaccinations. You think your neighbor is dirty and you don't want to catch a disease. He also has to fill out a mountain of paperwork. You know your neighbor has a poor educational background, and likely can't even read, but that's not your problem. He should have gone to school and worked hard like you did. You're neighbor is incapable of doing any of this. It's completely infeasible. One night you catch him sneaking into your yard to pick a few ears of corn to feed his family. How dare he commit a crime right? who cares that he was starving, criminals are just low dirty people too lazy to do honest work. By the way, you're neighbor works 60+ hours a week to bring home less pay in a year than you bring home in three months working only 35 hours a week. But that's not your problem. He should have gone to college right? So you throw have him thrown in jail. Meanwhile his wife and kids are REALLY starving, because their father/husband is not around to help provide for the family. You hire his wife as a maid and pay her much less than a living wage. In fact, you take advantage of the situation and pay her less than you would pay an educated worker with the same background as yourself, because you know she is poor and she can't afford to argue for fair treatment. She has to take what she can get. Of course she still can't come farm your rich land. Why should you share with someone less fourtunate than yourself? They should be less lazy, and earn more money so they can buy their own plot of land. Better yet, they should forsake eating, clothing their children, buying medicine, ect. for an entire year so they can turn over a year's pay to cover the 2000.00 needed to come live on your land legally.

Do you have any understanding yet of what illegal immigrants are motivated by? I'm pursuing a degree in sociology at school. As a sociologist, when we see an issue like immigrants coming here illegally, we don't just write them off as criminals. We ask ourselves questions like:

a) why would someone commit a crime and risk consequences instead of taking legal routes?

b) What's so difficult about the legal immigration process that it actually becomes easier to hire a coyote, cross the border illegally, risk the dangers associated with the coyotes, risk deportation, or worse, come to a new country without even so much as legal documentation to better establish yourself, without a reliable stable source of income? Without being able to reliably take advantage of health and safety services such as doctors offices, preventative medicine, workers rights, police departments, ect? Why would they honestly do that, if it's even possible for them to come here legally?

c) Why do they want to come to the US so bad in the first place? What are conditions like where they come from?

Sociologists shouldn't be the only ones asking those kind of questions. If you want to understand the immigration problem, you cannot do so without asking yourself those questions. Unless you have asked yourself those questions, I really feel that you have no right to open your ignorant mouth about this issue.

3) It sickens me that christians, people who are supposed to be taught in their churches, from their bibles, to be compassionate and charitable, to share with those less fourtunate than themselves, to willingly help their brothers, are the loudest voices against illegal immigration (and sometimes legal immigration). How the "america first" attitude can come out of a christian's mouth is beyond me. The only thing I can conclude is that you have completely missed the point of everything christ said for you to do. I hope you like the heat. Because according to your bible, your lack of compassion will see you burn.

You sit watching your neighbors starve and suffer, and you refuse to share any of your wealth, for the tiny imposition it might put on yourself. They are literally across the fence from you, but it's not your problem. They are not within your monkeysphere. How can you say that's not that bad? Again, as I've stated, many of these people earn the cost of immigration in an entire year of working. But it seems that we have so much money floating around in america, so much being wasted, that we find it difficult to relate to people who are literally living paycheck to paycheck. No, I'm saying that american suffering is equal to mexican suffering. What you are trying to say is that American suffering is somehow instrinsically more important and deserves more consideration by virtue of being american. I find that ethically reprehensible. I'm not putting mexicans first, I'm putting americans and mexicans on exactly the same footing and saying both sides deserve the same treatment. I don't want mexicans getting on and abusing welfare anymore than americans. But I'm honestly not as worried about mexicans abusing welfare as I am americans, because in my experience, american culture does a much better job of fostering dishonesty.

I've already refuted your argument and posted why I think it's invalid. You are pointing to illegals and saying they are responsible for the closing down of hospitals. But it's not illegals who are responsible for this, but uninsured poor. If there were no illegal mexicans here, those hospitals would still have closed, it just would have been uninsured poor caucasian and african americans living in the neighborhoods, causing the hospitals to close. When you can change the demographic and end up with the same end result, it is clearly NOT the fault of the original demographic. There's a bigger issue at play here, and it's ENTIRELY poverty.

The bible itself was cherry picked. The early church had literally hundreds of "holy documents" to choose from when forming the bible. They picked and chose what they thought represented what they wanted the values of christianity to be at that time. The rest of those documents were lost to time, burned, locked away, or whatever, but the general consensus is that we will probably never get to read them. That fact in and of itself makes your precious bible a very suspect piece of literature. The only thing I've ever thought I could trust in the bible was the "core" of christian teaching. Depending on your bible, you may recognize it as the parts highlighted in red letters, AKA the teachings of Jesus of Nazareth. So forgive me if I was under the mistaken impression that love and compassion defined christianity, but its not like I can trust anything else in that book.
