I don't remember the name of it, but it seems similar to what you're thinking should happen in Australia. Edit: Found it. It's the Central Arizona Project. Ancient Romans had them, ancient Indians had them, etc. I know the one that New York uses delivers 500 million gallons of water per day. I just saw something recently on TV about it, though it was more focused on the problems of the aqueduct rather than it's marvels . -------------------

	I realise that this isn't a new idea However, I've got a question to ask, what distances are those canals from the water to the city? If they're similar to the distances here in Australia, then it's entirely feasible. Also, I've included a map reference for everyone, so that you can visualise it better. The longest distance that the pipes would take is from Darwin to Melbourne, which is 1,951 miles or 3,140 kilometres. Pretty big distances ------------------- 'I don't know mercy, but I know pain. 	It's not that large an issue, considering we have the oil pipeline running through Alaska and Canada which I believe is over 3000 miles long. (Simply put, pipes are not expensive to manufacture and install, relatively speaking). Aqueducts like in California are a different story, as they're actually open and require numerous breaks and places to ensure that water flow remains consistent. ------------------- Gogogogo

	Its probably cheaper to have those Salt-water filter plants around the coast and just pump it from there. Far better than having a massive pipe system run through the whole country and it would be pretty hard to build considering your countries climate, wouldn't it? ------------------- Steam Forum\|Portfolio

	First up, to all the guys arguing that Antarctica is drier and Australia isn't a continent, that's beside the point Now to the point, I think that perhaps the government should invest money in building more dams in the wetter areas, such as Tasmania and South-West WA. The water collected in these areas could then be pipelined through to the drought affected areas. There is plenty of water, if we just utilise what we have effectively.
