CNNs Black In America

The two part documentary, displaying the lives of blacks in America aired two days ago. I thought, all things considered that the documentary did a good job of showing the trial and triumph of black life in America, while drawing upon the opinions of many of the right people. I feel that it did its job in sort of showing the difference that race actually does make in America.

Unfortunately I feel that the documentary in and of itself is fodder for the people who constantly bring up the point of reverse racism, and in many ways will be ignored by a lot of people.

Opinions?

I watched each one the first night they ran then again last night when they ran back to back. I am biracial (white mother, black father), but I have caramel skin so most people assume that I am simply black with white mixed in somewhere.

I thought the documentaries were well done. I really enjoyed how they touched on what life was like for blacks of different incomes and social situations. I especially enjoyed when they dealt with black kids and education. Being mixed, I already deal with the troubles of not being able to fit in with whites nor blacks; in addition, I am an honor roll student who takes all advanced class. Therefore, I act white. I listen to The Grateful Dead, The Beatles, Smashing Pumpkins, but I also listen to a lot of 'black music' as well, so I'm a social paradox.

I have never lived a day where someone has not reminded me that I am black. However, I was treated the best when I was in Japan, ironic for such a racist country.
