Um, that logic would only work for young stars. The earth could have been made yesterday and we could still see stars 10,000 light years away so long as the start itself had been around for more than 10,000 years. It is the light from the star in this case that matters not the age of the planet.

Of course the age of the universe could be used as an argument that way. Which based on current dating methods puts the universe around 14 billion years old.

You're right, my assumption is that the creationist belief is that the Earth and the Universe were created at the same time. My logic is that if the stars were all created 10,000 years ago, then their light would only be able to leave the star 10,000 years ago, thus all visible stars must be within a 10,000 light year radius. I expect you knew this, though, so I apologise for being unclear.

A light year is a measurement of distance (or more so a scalar quantity), not time. Even though a light year is defined as the distance that light can travel in 1 year, obviously intervention in a process would make discrepancies by that definition. Light travels 186,000 miles every second; and so do the math of how far light travels in a day, and then add the power/added momentum of God/a divine creator and you'll get your answer.
