even if the movie of final fantasy was bad the unlimited series is pretty good. Anyway the only thing i'm curious about wether or not Samus takes her helmet off during the end of the movie like the games.

Unfortunately, for Hollywood, the film genre is really just a basic and stale market graph. Cost of production to net profit. It would be nice to think a director like John Woo could debunk this, but this is very unlikely - especially considering he recently jumped into bed with BMW to produce the most banal form of "art" - the commercial. Reading a page discussing the movie Comingsoon.net, i was a little disappointed.
"The movie will center on the origins of the game's female protagonist, sexy bounty hunter Samus Aran..."
Although under that suit there's no doubt that Samus has the goods. However, knowing Hollywood, this seems to foreshadow the fact that they may just stick some trendy starlet in there - and it wont be Samus anymore, it'll be Jolie, or whoever. Reading on other forums, and this, people have brought up the problem of her character. How should she talk? Are they going to put some crass love interest in there? Are they going to make her behave like a cliche female action movie character?

I'm not that big on video games. But I love metroid - ever since I played it on NES, up to Metroid Prime. The story is really good, the fact that it's a womam under the suit and that that isn't exploited and made cheap has given the game longevity well beyond other similar games.

I hope that somebody in a decision making position will note that the importance of this movie to fans of the game should dictate how it is made. "We have to assume the mainstream audience is unfamiliar with the property," said producer Brad Foxhoven. (Gamespot.com) Why assume that the mainstream audience should care at all? The mainstream audience will just be looking for another sci-fi flick to see. As we have seen with almost every other Video-game turned movie - the fans thought it was bad and didn't live up to the game, and those that were not previously familiar with it thought it was crap. And they're both damn right. I wish that they would target a smaller audience, assume the audience to have a good idea of what metroid is about, and play up to the elements that have made metroid such a good game.
I hope for (as does the majority of people on forums like this) a computer-animated movie. Unfortunately, the budget of something like that would be very big. I remember reading on one site that this movie was to be slated a large budget. While that is ultimately very good news for the quality of the animation, it also means that they're gonna have to sell this movie to the masses, which i feel given hollywoods past record means: dumbing it down, keeping the story simple and formulaic, adding some trendy celebs, and the like.
I would love to see a metroid movie, and when/if it comes out I'll se it nonetheless. But I hope that it'll be different than the other video-game stinkers out there. Metroid really does have the potential to be an amazing and memorable movie. As far as video-games go, it's success has to do with it's innovation and creativity. Let's hope those hacks in hollywood actually consider this for a moment! but I think that creative thought in Hollywood has the life-span of a fart in a bathtub

That's funny, considering that they haven't started filming it.
