Karin turned and said, "hei."

She turned around again. She looked down at the wooden counter, not saying anything. Then her head lifted again and she asked, for no particular meaning nor reason for herself, "what's this town like?"

She looked down at the counter again. She wasn't shy, nor was she uncomfortable, she was just waiting. And maybe she should know about the town a little more, for she hardly knew here at all. Some mother never sending us to Grandma's, neither telling us if we ever did have one, she thought.

Saturday 6th Spring 1st Year

Whisp thought for a moment and then replied "This town is cool. Once you get used to life around here, you'll really enjoy it"
"Okay, thanks"
"No problem. You want a drink?"
"Yeah, sure"
"Cool" Whisp said. He called Doug over and asked him for two drinks.
"Certainly, Whisp"
"Thank you".
Whisp looked at the girl again and asked "Do you know a girl called Emily?"

Spring 6, Saturday, Year 1

No, not Darien! Nikki thought in alarm, her head spinning wildly. She would run away! Go live in the forest or in someone’s attic or something! Or go back to the boat! Surely another boat was coming in soon? She would go find out!

Karlos watched Nikki race around the room and gather her things, and then he finally grabbed her by the shoulders and said exasperatedly, ‘what are you doing?’

‘I'm outta here! I'm not staying in a town that Darien’s in! It’s bad enough you and Whisp and my brother are here! I don’t care if I get chased by every cop in the city if I go back there, but I am not staying here! That man tried to kill me!’

‘I know that, but suddenly disappearing will just tell him you’re nearby! Calm down woman!’

‘Shut up! I'm not gonna let him kill me! I’ve still got the scar on my back from him! ‘Cuz he tried to stab me! That guy’s a psycho!’ Nikki shouted.

‘Quiet down! Do you want the entire inn to hear this conversation?’ Karlos said calmly. His composed manner helped Nikki to calm herself down and she collapsed onto the bed.

‘What the hell am I supposed to do? I’m trying to lay low and all these agents are in town,’ she said, a tired look coming to her face.

‘I don’t know if Darien knows you’re here yet. I'm not going to tell him, unless you give me a reason to. And either will Whisp. We’re trying to start a new life here. So as long as you don’t disturb the peace in this town everything will be alright,’ Karlos told her. ‘And no smoke bombs either.’

‘Yeah, thanks for breaking it by the way. It’s not like these things are difficult to build or anything,’ she muttered, throwing the useless smoke bomb to the floor. Then she looked up at him with a puzzled look. ‘Why are you helping me anyway? Why would an agent help a crook?’

‘I'm not an agent anymore,’ Karlos muttered.

‘Once an agent, always an agent.’

‘Believe what you want, but I have nothing to do with them anymore. As to why I'm helping you… I can’t really tell you that.’

‘Awwww, are those old feelings coming up again Karlos? I told you that I will only date you if you admit you like me,’ Nikki said, a humorous glint coming to her eye. His eye twitched in annoyance. So she was still doing the flirting thing. God, she could always find a way to tick people off.

‘Don’t bother Nikki, I’ve already got a girl I'm interested in,’ he said.

‘Then you should go see her. Hanging around another girl’s room might give her the wrong idea. And these things can get around in such a small town. So cya!’

Nikki pushed Karlos out of her room and slammed the door in his face, sighing in relief when she heard his footsteps going down the stairs. She leaned on the door and looked at his silencer thoughtfully. She wondered how long it would be before he noticed she had swiped it. Well that’s what he gets for pointing a gun at her and shooting her smoke bomb.

So what was she going to do now? Karlos, Whisp and now Darien? Just how many agents were in this town? She shuddered when she remembered that night Darien had almost killed her. He had wasted all his bullets trying to hit her, so he had resorted to using a small dagger he carried around. Small but deadly. She had never been so scared for her life. He had finally managed to trap her in a warehouse and had pulled out that dagger to try and make her co-operative. It hadn’t worked. And she had received a big gash on her back for her troubles. It ached now, as though knowing she was thinking of it.

Nikki sighed and walked to the middle of the room. She was just going to have to deal with it. She had escaped them all before and she could do it again. And if she got really desperate she could always resort to her thieving skills to avoid Darien. And the other two. And her brother.

Speaking of thieving, she had some basics to cover. She pulled her bag onto the bed and slowly unzipped it. Any faster and it would set off a device that destroyed all the gizmos she had stored in there. She was very particular about who touched her stuff. She was even more particular about who used it.

She pulled out one of the best devices she had ever designed. A voice activated mechanism that would release a flash of blinding light when given the key word, giving her time to escape whoever the hell was there to get her. It also told her when an unauthorized person entered her room. Or when an authorized person entered her room. It depended on how much she trusted the person, and how she programmed the device. Or the GAF device, as she called it. Get Away Fast. She wasn’t that good at coming up with big impressive technical names.

Nikki held up a hair she had taken from Ann without her knowing, and pulled a small recorder from her pocket. She would play the recorder so GAF would recognize her voice patterns and the hair was for DNA purposes. She had concluded that Ann would probably come into the room a lot to clean, so obviously she would have to be on the authorized list. And that was enough to make Nikki feel annoyed. Putting people on the trusted list that weren’t actually trusted was just… stupid.

After setting up the GAF, Nikki went back to her bag to get her prize. It was the last thing she had stolen before being kicked out of the city. It was actually the reason she was now one of the police’s most wanted. She held up the microchip with a triumphant grin. In that microchip was a program that could bypass any security you cared to find. In Nikki’s case, bank numbers and security codes to very rich places. Except she wouldn’t be able to use it until she got back to the city. Yet another downside of having to lay low. There were a lot of people looking for this chip. Carlos and Whisp wouldn’t be happy if they found out what she had.

And that’s why you won’t tell them, she thought jokingly.

She pulled one of the beds out from the wall and kneeled down to the floorboards. She collected her bag from the bed and retrieved a small flip knife from it. Not as impressive as Whisp’s daggers but it got the job done. She flipped it open and stuck it into the cracks between the floorboards, levering it until it came loose. She was making herself a hidey hole for all her devices.

After putting her bag into the hole and setting up another security measure, Nikki dragged the bed back over the floorboard and wandered out the door. She was greeted by a ginger cat, who meowed at her and brushed itself up against her leg. She kneeled down to pat it, and then suddenly heard some voices coming from downstairs.

Bloody hell, how long have I been gone? Hey, A_J nice to see you've joined us! And I think what she meant by the dating thing KxJ was Nikki was teasing Karlos about it, not that it actually happened. Anyways, your choice as to how it ends up *shrugs*

Spring 6, Saturday, Year 1

'What are you guys doing here?' Rain asked her grandparents. She had said goodbye to Drei and was sitting inside her home opposite her grandparents, the dogs sleeping at her feet.
'Well dearie, we were worried about you! You just left and we had no idea where you had gone. Lucky we know the Mayor in this town or we would have never found you!' Grandma said. She took Rain's hand, and Rain just as quickly took it away.
'Come Rain, we have the right to look after our grandchild dont we? Especially since your mother and father died...' Grandpa said, a sad look coming to his face. 'And your poor brother.'
Rain stared at them. How could they just come here and bring back all these memories? She had come here to forget about her dead family and about her grandparents. She looked at Grandpa in his wheelchair and a tear came to her eye. It was her fault he was in a wheelchair. She had gotten stuck in a big tree and grandpa had climbed it to get her down. Then he had fallen and hurt his back quite badly, so now he couldnt walk. She had managed to get down the tree quick smart after that happened.
'I cant deal with this now. You can just stay here until I get back,' she muttered, then ran out the door. She swung herself on Storm and directed him into town, hiding her tears in his mane. She couldnt believe this. She had tried running away, but the memories had caught up with her.
They finally arrived to their destination. The inn. She needed a drink and fast.
She told Storm to wait for her and entered the inn. She could see something bad had happened in there. There were police everywhere, but she ignored them. She went straight to the bar and asked for the strongest alcohol the inn had.
'You're new to town arent you? What could've happened that you want this much alcohol?' Doug asked as he fetched her drink.
'Yeah, Im Rain. And too much,' she muttered, downing the drink and asking for another. She just ended up asking for the bottle and poured them herself.

Karin ignored the policemen, she just looked at the guy. Why was he asking her about a person she doesn't know?

"No," she said, "who's Emily?"

Moon Shadow suddenly came leaping from the stairs and bounded onto her lap silently. She didn't have to wait anymore.

Whisp said "Oh, she's just my sister. I shouldn't have asked"
"Your sister?"
"Yeah, she's moving to this town to help me with my farm. She's going to be here any minute now"
"Oh" Karin said. She looked at Whisp again and whistled when she saw the scar across one eye.
"How did you get that?"
"Oh, the scar?"
"Yeah"
"Got that protecting my sister Emily from a crook in a bank who tried to kill her after she spat in his face" Whisp said.
The door opened and Whisp's sister walked in. He stood up and walked over to her. "Hey, bro" she said.
"Hello, Emily. Let's head to my house and relax"
"Don't you mean our house?" she asked.
He grinned. "exactly what I mean"

Karlos saw Emily walk towards Whisp and he shouted out to her, "Alright Emily? How you been?" She smiled at him and replied, "Not bad. How's that chest of yours?"
Karlos said, "Elli, the nurse, found a small bit of the bullet still in me. I've had an operation and now it's all fine.]" *smile*, "Anyways, gotta get home and have my dinner and stuff. See ya all! "
everyone except Nikki said Bye back as Karlos left.

Spring 6, Saturday, Year 1

Nikki watched Karlos leave the inn silently. Everybody looked at her as she slowly turned and walked up the stairs, and she saw Ann was kinda scared as she passed. She was too tired to care.
She entered her room and gave the GAF the proper password so she wasnt blasted with bright light then picked up the broken smoke bomb from the floor and made her way to the window. She opened and climbed out, pulling herself up to the roof. This was thief territory. And it was where she felt safe.
She laid on her back with her hands behind her head and looked up at the stars. There were so many, much more than you could see in the city. No polution to block out the sky she guessed.
Nikki was mentally kicking herself. So much had happened in her first day in Mineral Town. Two agents had found her, then the one she hated the most had nearly killed her again. And she had been too scared to stop it herself. Usually she would've kicked his ass for even touching her. But no, Karlos had to save her instead. That's what she hated the most. Karlos had saved her.

Spring 6, Saturday, Year 1

"Bye then." Kari got up silently as Moon Shadow leaped off. She looked at Emily for a while, and when she noticed she looked away and walked out the inn door.
"Bye," she heard.

She walked through the red-brick roads, and continued through it until she reached the farm. She still couldn't call it home yet.

I'm getting this old place repaired, she thought as she rattled open the door and went inside. Moon Shadow walked inside without a sound, and for Moon Shadow to step inside the house meant he would really live properly with her instead in the street. If they had streets.

After Karlos cooked his hearty dinner, his last dinner here, he got out a pen and some paper. He wrote a short letter to whisp and attatched a few old photos of them both at the agency with it into an envelope.
He walked over to Whisp's house in the rain (it just started) and posted the letter through the mailbox.

A while later...

Karlos looked back at the town and his house.
Better get going before Darien recovers and comes back to take revenge...
He felt a few tears roll down his cheeks as he walked further on.

OOC- Karlos is still in the roleplay, just not in mineral town (just like a sub-story). He will return one day. I think that BluePikky will be the one to bring him back because Whisp is his closest friend so far. For now, NO ONE can nick my house.

When Whisp and Emily got back to their house, the rain had just started. Whisp checked the letterbox and saw there was a letter from Karlos. He read it and saw it had a number and some instructions for him when Darien had left town for the last time. He unlocked the door and they went inside. He then made something for emily and rushed out. He couldn't afford to be late for his date with Elli.

Nagging? You make me sound like an old woman

Spring 6th, Saturday, Year 1

Rain had emptied the bottle. Now she was just resting her head against the bar and groaning. She had obviously drunk too much. Now she was just plain drunk.

'Rain? What are you doing here so late?'

She groggily pulled up her head and waited for her eyes to focus on the person who was standing right in front of her.

'Gray! Where did you come from?' she said brightly, and much too loudly. 'Come have a drink with me!'

Rain took hold of the empty wine bottle and swung it around, then toppled off her chair. She laughed and looked around blearily, as though wondering what had just happened.

'Uh... I might pass on that,' Gray said, taking her hand and putting her back on her seat. He took a seat himself and asked, 'so what's wrong Rain? Why are you here...' Gray took the empty bottle off her when she tried pouring it into her glass. 'Drinking?'

'Im not drunk!' Rain said angrily. Then she looked confused and said, 'that's not what you asked...'

'No, it's not,' Gray said. 'Come on Rain, tell me what's the matter.'

Rain sighed and put down her empty glass. She had been trying to drink the air. Obviously it hadn't worked.

'Well... my Grandparents showed up at my door today after I went out with Drei,' she told him. 'And that sort of bummed me out.'

'Why? And you're going out with Drei?' Gray said, looking a little surprised. Rain nodded absent mindedly.

'You see after my parents and brother died in a car crash when I was little, I moved to my Grandparents farm. It was only small with a couple of cows and horses... It's where I got Storm. We grew up together on the farm. It was nice there, it made me feel better after the accident. But one day I decided to climb one of the tallest trees in the farm. It had been so fun, but then I realised I couldnt get down. I was screaming and crying. So Grandpa tried to climb up to get me. But then... But then he fell...'

Tears welled up in Rain's eyes. She tried wiping them away but more kept coming.

'Here Rain. Im so sorry about your family...' Gray offered her a hankerchief with a sympathetic look. She accepted it gratefully.

'Nothing I can do now... and it was all my fault. If I hadnt been so stupid none of it would've happened!' A fresh wave of tears come up and her shoulders began to shake.

'It's okay Rain, everything will be okay...' Gray said, gathering her into a hug. She cried into his shoulder and hugged him back gratefully.

'Thanks Gray. You're such a good friend...'she whispered.

Just then Drei walked into the inn. He had seen Storm tied up outside in the rain and wondered what he was doing there. He stared at the hugging pair blankly, then slowly turned around and walked back outside.

Karin poured milk into a saucer she found in a tiny cupboard, and layed it on the table's surface. Moon Shadow leaped lightly onto the table and licked tenderly at the liquid. Karin sat sighing at the table. "What am I going to be doing first?" she asked him.

He looked at her for a moment, the eyes glowing as brightly as the brilliance of the moon, then went back to the milk.

When Moon Shadow finished, she washed the saucer and returned it to the cupboard, and went upstairs to sleep. She changed and went into the covers. It was slightly dusty, and a bit cold, but after some while it warmed up beaneath the blanket. Moon Shadow leaped as lightly as before, soundless, onto the bed and slept on top of it. "Good night, Moon Shadow," Karin said.

Quite early, but what else is there to do? Plus, she was tired, strangely. She closed her eyes.

6th Spring 1st year

Karlos walked further and further on, his hair dripping with water as the rain stopped and the sun came out. He did not have a clue where he was, until he saw a wall.
"Uh..."He said. It was then that he suddenly noticed the big looming building straight ahead.

The sign on the building read: Langlo City Undercover Agency
"Aargh!"Karlos cried as he ran away from it. But when he looked back, he noticed a small crowd of faces. Familiar faces. He stopped.
"Karlos?" one of them called.

Whisp quickly walked through the town, heading for the Clinic. He had to make it on time, he just had to. "I am going to make it there" he said to himself.
He reached the Clinic and saw Elli waiting for him outside. "Wow, Elli. You look as beautiful as the day we met" Whisp said. Elli blushed and said "Thanks. Shall we go?"
Whisp smiled. "yes, let's go" he replied.
