[Suggestion] Registration Warning

Far too many Members want their names changed but don't want to cough up 10$ to pay for it.

In the 'Name Change' Suggestion Thread, I said people should make sure they pick a name that Members won't want to change, but then I thought, how will they know about the Name Change Process.

So, while Registering, they, before selecting there designated Username, should be shown a warning making sure they select a name they're happy with, and won't want to change.

If this goes through, it will stop alot of Threads asking for different ways to get new Usernames and stop people asking how to, because it will be explained beforehand.

I don't support.

When someone is thinking of a name, of course whatever sounds good at the time of registration, is what they're gonna make. They aren't going to sit there and contemplate, "well, I like the name now but in 6 months from now, I'll regret it".

Regardless of a warning or not, people aren't going to change their mind about a name.

Or you could do what I did, and just make a new account, like I did when I got bored of Swordmaster_2000.

Just get a new account and put a link to your old profile in your sig, and a link to your new account in your old sig for a few weeks. Then change it when you're confident that everyone who knows you knows that you've got a new account and what said new account was.

Jambos, I agree with what your saying but a Warning will be better than no Warning.

Again, there will always be the person who has no money, or lives in the UK, or some other profound reason.

No matter how you put it, there will always be some sort of problem with Name Changes.

Yes, but it also means a chance of it being stolen, which no matter how high or low, will worry some people, who do not want there money stolen for something as simple as a name change.

I don't support either. I'm not aware of any other website that actually lets people get name changes. People should know that it's a permanent thing anyway due to the nature of the internet.

I think Bamman's got it right. Members are going to pick their usernames based on what they want at the time, not what they think they'll want ten years later. Plus I think that something like this would be implied anyway, I don't think they'll register expecting to be able to change their username on the fly.

Granted this is only text and not really a big deal, so maybe a flashing red warning would be a bit much, but maybe after the username field description ("The username identifies you...") an additional sentence could say "Name changes cost $10" or something.
