misc [Feedback] Hardware & Games Dropdowns Block my.neoforum and Notifications link

This has been bugging me incessantly. Everytime I load the main page the first thing I do is swipe my mouse to the my.neoforum or notification link, and subsequently ever-so-briefly brush past the Hardware or Games links, instantly bringing up a menu that blocks access to them (as depicted above). It'd be great if there were a delay such that they didn't appear the instant you touched them, or that they'd be relocated on the opposite side of the main page as to not block those links. It's really obnoxious, especially when I impatiently swipe my mouse away to make it disappear and then in my imprecision while moving my cursor back I accidentally brush the link again.

I don't know if I'm the only one experiencing this issue, but it certainly has started to feel like an unnecessary pain in the neck.

definitely an annoying issue. i suggest keeping the layout as it is, and putting a short delay on the dropdown...a sort of minimum hover time before it appears.

the delay wouldnt be that long. the issue is that it pretty much comes up instantly, which is a problem if you move your mouse to your intended link, miss, and try to move back. a delay that takes that in to account would keep both parties happy.

You would probably want 200ms or so.

We do have menu options above that link in our browsers (and the address bar and drop down) as well as the neoseeker main page link above it as well. Furthermore, it is not a very large vertical area, so it is easy to just glance over the border and hover over it inadvertently, especially on a high res monitor or when using a mouse pad. I honestly don't know how you can't see it, as it happens quite often for me.

It doesn't take much time, but when you are trying to scroll under the hover it is a pain. Whether or not it "takes much time" really isn't the issue either, the fact of the matter is that it is quite an inconvenience. When I am moving down from the address bar or my bookmark bar and mouseover the drop down, it blocks the my.neoforum link. Even if it only takes a second to fix, it doesn't change that it is a pain in the ass that I need to move the mouse around to fix it. The reality is that this is a fix that would really have no ill effects.

I really don't know how you say a higher resolution will make it less likely, as you are working with a relatively smaller vertical space. Not that it matters, as it's still a pain in the ass regardless of resolution.

Yeah, I can see how this would be annoying actually. If you bring your mouse up to the address bar then come down to the my.neoforum link you'll hit hardware/games unless you go out of your way not to. Go too far right and you'll hit the PC, 360 etc. drop-downs too. I've never really noticed as I have my.neoforum on my bookmarks bar and that's where I login to the site anyway, but I can see how this happens.

I came across a nifty little jQuery plugin called hoverIntent which I thought was kinda cool. This attempts to determine a user's intention before calling the hover property. If your mouse slows down when hovering or stops on the element it'll display the mouseover, otherwise it won't. Check the top set of colored boxes for default behavior, then have a go at hovering past the second set. I think this would improve usability if implemented.
