I'm sorry that you view your own personal time with such high-regard. As if you were using the internet for anything poignant and life-changing. If you don't know who notified you or why you were notified, then just ignore it. I'm sure you ignore unknown numbers that call your cellphone. Do you call your mobile service provider and complain that people that aren't in your contacts list have the ability to call you? Or do you complain to Google or Hotmail for receiving emails from people you don't know? Do you complain to Facebook about being sent invites and notifications from others you may not know?[/sarcasm]

It's not a wonder that this thread is still going because you cannot see that the complaint is frivolous and mundane. Especially in the grand-scheme of things that the developers and coders have to go through in the here-and-now with other projects and tasks that take priority over critiquing because of a complaint with only 3 members in support of. Count the posts in here, the nay's have it.

And 3rd party advertisers are prohibited on the site, so their posts wouldn't get far. And advertisers aren't familiar enough with the site to know that there is a notification system. And I highly doubt that an advertiser would then compile an entire user-list or even a forum participants list to get people to view their thread.

People use the internet for life-changing things too you know. I don't have a cell phone but why would you ignore a random call? What if the lovely member aptly named ctrl wanted to genuinely quote one of my posts somewhere in the site and not drag me into your notification bomb antics again.

I actually never get random emails from sites on Hotmail, because they actually have a superior system and surprisingly enough, not a whole lot of companies sell my email address. Big shock.

The complaint is only "frivolous and mundane" because you know exactly why I made this thread and naturally, being such a big fan of notification bombs yourself, you deemed it necessary to make idiotic generalizations on who 'might' be interested in your [sarcasm] fascinating post. [/sarcasm]

The point is that I have yet to see a single notification bomb (the first of which I wasn't even a member who had favorite'd the board) that was actually worth wasting my time reading. Hence my suggestion in my last post to outright ban them or even limit the number.

Wow no shit sherlock. I had no idea advertisers were prohibited on the site. What's next? Will you enlighten me as to what ctrl+f4 does? Perhaps that Redemption is the admin? You didn't even address my point- that if one person spent about 5-20 minutes just compile a list of all the members, they can proceed to copy-paste and henceforth actually be incredibly irritating. Just because it hasn't happened, doesn't mean it won't eventually.

Lolwut. I never got a notification for people quoting the post. Are you daft? You never get repeat notifications for people quoting posts.

And yet, if I put a @ that gets quoted by someone else, the person I @ in the quoted post isn't notified twice, just once for the original @. What are you on about?

I was merely stating that people were quoting the original list with all the @-tagged names. Which started with this post quoting me with the posted list. Then you were the second person to complain about being on the notification list. And even further, you thought I used some underhanded means to somehow do it. Then, chaosfire felt the need to quote my original post thereby re-notifying those people a third time. Lavitz was nice enough to be the fourth and then a fifth time doing it. And really through all that, it was you, Rune Ripper(who deleted his posts for obvious reasons other than the fact that they incriminated his own actions), and Misty that were annoyed enough to somehow rally support against it.

Yeah the support came from the fact that you were completely inept with the notification bomb and a majority of the people didn't even have the forum favorited, hence not caring about your post regardless. I'm not going to bother checking the thread, but it was probably you or another person that even claimed that the people complaining had the forum favorited when it was, infact, not true.

Why do you think that I meant 457,539 accounts to one notification bomb for a spambot? I'm sure you're anywhere from 13-21 and are capable of rational thought. Over half of those accounts are throwaway advertisers, dead accounts, people asking a question and never returning, and so forth. To even think I suggested adding every single name onto one list is absurd. It's far easier to go to the Directory and add names through that way, which, is easily done with copy paste of the entire list and then breaking the commas and whatnot. I'm not even sure why you felt it necessary to critique this point when I said that all it would take is a one-time effort for what would be effectively a foolproof spambot to mass-notify everyone.

There were no repeat notifications from people quoting your post though, so again I don't understand why you continue to think this. Are you referring to people quoting your list without notifying you and then reposting it in their own notification bombs in separate threads?

Edit: I lied. I went to the thread. First link, page 13, 3 people disliking your notification bomb quite vocally with you, the white knight shining in the darkness, defending it by calling people that were bothered by it "mad"- how valiantly noble!

The amount of replies are obviously more positive than negative, because I'm sure a majority ignored it. But you can ignore people pming you about spam! Why do we ban spambots!???? Or those that post ad threads? We can just ignore them!!!!!!!! Oh, wait. Because they're a nuisance.

Kudos to ctrl for doing all the hard work in making this notification bomb. Seeing as how the thread this was posted in got a lot more views and posts, I think I'll post it just to annoy everyone and garner more attention for this suggestion.


Took me less than 5 minutes to copy-paste into Microsoft Word. I then proceeded to replace all commas with @ and then remove all spaces by the same Find and Replace feature. I have to make line breaks manually (took about 10 minutes), but I'm sure I could find a feature in Word that does that for me automatically. Overall, this is at least 300+ people if your claim of your bomb having 250 is accurate. Bam. I just notified an incredible amount of people. Why should I be able to do this with minimal effort for so many people that likely don't care about the RFS forum or this thread? There's absolutely no restriction or anyway of getting out of notification bombs except for not being on the list, hoping your name doesn't show up to the person making said bomb, or having your settings set to private.

As Misty said, limiting the max amount of notifications to 5 is an excellent idea as even when debating with multiple people, I've never had to notify more than 5.
