Why? Neoseeker already uses upload by URL for several other image upload forms AND runs a check on their size to ensure they meet relevant minimum and maximum sizes. For example, the forms used for screenshots and concept art. The fact that avatars over the maximum up to 100 x 100 are now resized by the site only helps with this.

The functionality is already here. It just needs adapting to be usable in the avatar system.

I can't think of any genuine downsides to this. It offers convenience for times where you spot a usable avatar on image searches or even a faster method of uploading an avatar people may have had resized in G&A. It would still adhere to sizing limits and all restrictions currently enforced by the existing system.

Edit: This thread title is very vague though. "Upload Avatar by URL" would be more descriptive.

I support but I don't throw my hat at it. It is something that could come in handy but not something that I would rather them spend their time on over something that could be more beneficial.

I support this. Would be convenient and not take as long.

Guugley - I think the suggestion is more geared towards having a URL upload form so that Neoseeker takes the image at that URL and uploads it to Neoseeker's image location. So in that case it wouldn't matter if the image at the source URL changed as Neoseeker wouldn't need to reference it outside of the upload process.

Even if we did go for the hotlink route as with signatures, avatars can be disabled. This already happens when people try to bypass the image limits through creative means.

pretty much this. its a good idea. nothing majorly exciting, but it gives users a little extra convenience. at the same time, though, im sure there are other, more important things the staff are busy with, though i dont mind either way, as its not a feature that i, or many others (apart from King X2 ) would use regularly.
