misc Be able to seek games, books and movies by saga/series/author name/etc.

As the title says i think it would be a good idea to implement such an addition for the forum search, the main reason is that not always games are on the same console or even letter i think ti would help to save time and speed up the process of search an example is that i type dept heaven and i am shown all that is related to dept heaven (Riviera the promised land, knights on the knightmare and yggdra union) other example would be nasu, kinoko nasu or nasu verse this would bring up kara no kyoukai, fate games, tsukihime & metly blood, DDD,etc, or for a more western approach Tolkien and we get the hobbit and the lord of the rings along with the simarilion.

This could also apply to publishers like square enix, the results would show all forums related to square, enix and Square Enix (for those that do not know the Square and enix were separate companies that latter went on and merged).

I've noticed a few of the things you are asking for are already possible (eg you can already use the neoseek function to search for series and video game company names and it'll return appropriate links for you.

However, your suggestion did encourage me to play around with the function and has highlighted several shortcomings that your suggestion aims to address.

While the search function does pick up video game companies, it appears to ignore any movie companies or book authors. Even though Tolkien has a profile it doesn't seem to get picked up by the search directly (switching to specifically search for companies does show a few results in some cases such as Funimation but it is very hit and miss).

The Square Enix thing you brought up made me think of a different application using a company's profile page to link companies. Let me see what I can do.

Edit: Hmm. It's not quite the same thing but it is possible to use the wiki description of a company to link to related companies like how it is now on the Square Enix company page. This might not be ideal for you though as it is necessary to switch between the company pages as opposed to having all related games listed on one page.

A stronger keyword search would be nice, perhaps extending the forum's tagging system to the profiles. I know sometimes the search will pick up on keywords that are in the profile's wiki description but it's hard to see where it does and where it doesn't.

So... would this be like an advanced search feature? Or an improvement to the already existing search engine?

I support. It sounds like it would make the search feature a lot easier to use.

I'm all for a more powerful search feature, since it's implementation at the top in 1.5 I've been using it quite a lot, and while it provides a lot of the stuff I'm looking for, it does have a few shortcomings like book authors and even some of the products listed by searching a game company. For example, searching Square Enix under 'Series' would give you Final Fantasy, Kingdom Hearts, etc but won't show individual forums in those series unless you clicked on the link. Minor changes like that can prove exceptionally useful when browsing for items.
