[Suggestion] Google+ Integration

I don't really know the full extent of what Google+ can do, or how it can be used, but it seemed like quite a few 'seekers have already got involved and it's only growing.

It'd be cool if we could tie our Google+ accounts to our Neoseeker profiles much like Twitter and Facebook, even if the full extent of what those do already isn't possible.

What is +1ing, Nagare?

Google's +1 is an entirely different thing from Google+, though. Frankly, I don't see Google+ as being widely used enough to warrant integration into Neo. Perhaps in the future, but the current closed beta status of Google+ means that adoption is probably not widespread enough to justify integration. There's also the fact the Google+ doesn't have an API yet, though they're working on it.

In any case, it's already possible to integrate your Google Account with your profile (via the Google Talk field). Is your Google+ account similar or tied in to your Google Account? I'm afraid I can't tell as I don't have Google+, but it might be the case. :3

Celes Leonhart: Yeah, well, even though I have a Google Account, I don't have Google+. They've reached capacity or something, so it's in closed beta. Still, doesn't that mean that the current Google Account integration would be enough? Probably the only thing missing would be a link in your Neo profile to your G+ profile.

Edit: Hmm... I just thought of a possible reason why Google+ integration could be worth pursuing, and that would be to enable posting to your G+ account, similar to how you can post to your Facebook or Twitter account. Now that's something worth considering.

Celes Leonhart I would like an invite, but I don't think it'll do much good. I get a message on the G+ homepage saying:

Anyway, for the status updates and stuff, it'd have to be more than simple Google Account integration, which we already have. For those features, G+ needs to have a working public API. They don't have one yet, but when they do, well, I'm sure Red and co. will be keeping an eye on it. Whether they'd want to implement it or not, though, is another thing entirely. :3

You can already currently do this, just add your Google email to your Gtalk settings, log out of Neoseeker, then click on the Google social login button and sign in with the same email as the one registered to your Gtalk field on the site. Neoseeker will auto link the Google account to your Celes Leonhart.

This doesn't add Google+ functionality, but my hope is that any future Google+ API will simply "work" with sites that have been connected using the regular google profile connection.

For anyone else reading, one side benefit of doing this kind of connection is that if you ever lose your password you can use any of the social networks we support to log in and recover your account.
