	Log in to remove this sponsored message I also support, not only would it cut down on questions asking how to get an avatar but it'd also make new people feel a little less alienated that they don't have one and everyone else does. Would like to see this implemented

	I'm indifferent. Although for the sake of argument I will raise the point that people rebutting the "they'll all be the same" argument with Pokemon and The Dark Knight examples need a rethink. In both cases members, while having the same theme to their avatars, would at least have slight variations on the theme. This proposal would lead to multiple members having the exact same avatars. Useful for spotting new people to the site yes. Not so great for individuality and convenience of older members though. ------------------- Gumdrop Fields

I really don't see the harm in this either way. It's nothing but a good thing. Who cares if people have the same one. 	Your point was illustrated poorly. Sure there is a chance that members who use the defaults will run into other members with the same one. However, not all new members are going to use the defaults; some will already have the know-how and some will want their own from the git go. This proposal only serves as a stop gap towards their individuality and at the same time, conformity (having an avatar like everyone else). -------------------

But I'm sure after a while those newer members would find their identity on the site, portraying themselves through their avatar/sig. When I joined the site, I think even if this was implemented I still wouldn't of used it. Joining the site at a late age I already had my mind set. Others on the other hand, who join the site at a younger age would probably joyfully accept a bit of help in gaining an online personality. Sure, we would probably see some of the same popular default avatars floating around but people including myself change their avatars/sigs often enough to probably not make this much of a issue.

	Basic English comprehension would indicate that with "individuality" and "convenience" being the nouns in the sentence that "not so great" applies to both. But you're right. It could easily be misinterpreted by someone who either doesn't speak English or didn't take the time to actually think about what they are reading. I make no apologies for not dumbing down my language. Why you brought that up is a complete mystery anyway. The only thing misinterpreted out of that whole post is that the TDK/Pokemon avatars were all variations on a theme. They were not exactly the same as FB is trying to make out. Other new members could instantly know how to upload avatars. This only serves as a benefit as if you don't know what to find as an avatar, or the person has no clue how to upload their own, they can simply pick the preset avatars around 15-30 and there ya go. Not everyone will use this, nor is this a big concern for individuality. It's a big convenience for those who don't know how to make an avatar. 	A default avatar system would work great to encourage new members to start with an avatar rather than start with a blank slate. 	How about to prevent what everyone is thinking will be a mass mimicry of each other...the displayed avatars (for defaults) are randomly chosen from a database of member submitted defaults? Much like the Questional page, except with a lot more options and maybe display 20-30 randomly at a time? ------------------- Check out the Android Forum!
