I like 75x75 pixel idea. 65x65 seems too small in my mind, 75x75 is perfect, and 100x100 is too large. It's nice to have more space for avatars too.

I have to agree there, I think 75x75 is perfect... I have recently visited a forum that allows avatars up to 150x150! (NOT a typo! ), but that is too extreme. 75x75 would be just the right size for my avatar I think, or for some of the ones I am thinking of making soon - but I can't add them yet so here is no point atm

Size is annoying, but i seem to remember Red had his reasons for them.

PNG's however, i would love to have PNG avatars.

75x75 and 25kb is a great size. It shouldn't bog down 56kers, and it doesn't make the forums look messy.

I dunno about the kb size increment in avatars. I'd imagine it would add stress on the servers, but then again I don't know about that either. Still, if you multiply 10kb times the ever-increasing amount of members on Neo with potential to max out the avatar filesize, then you'd gain a good amount of stress. A lot of other sites allow extremely big avatar sizes and dimensions, but that's because they're on a much much smaller scale.

From GG's example, not even 100x100 avatars look bad, but I feel that 75x75 looks perfect. Still, I think that 65x65 does the job perfectly, and I consider raising the size as an extra nice thing that we don't really need. On a side note, like many other members have said, .png format should be supported.

Also might I add that at least 75x75 is going to look perfectly ok on a 1024 x 768 monitor (which is almost dying out and being replaced by higher resolution monitors). Same as a Dial-up modem, and a slight increment in size isn't really going to change much on the loading time. Red's post on the matter was almost 7 years ago, too. The only real problem I believe would be if the site can handle it.

I think 75x75 is perfect sizes, so we should cinrease it to that from the current 65x65, but increasing kb size would add to much strain on the servers for many people...

Anyway, perhaps red has changed his mind now? Or... is it the supermods who decide about the suggestions here? Maybe enough support from supermods would change it, or something...

Server strain is not a concern with regards to avatar size.

I personally prefer smaller avatars but I'm open to enlarging them. This is an issue for us to explore at the same time as the request to auto resize avatars that are too large, and also potentially changing the way we store avatar filenames so that the caching of avatars is no longer an issue.
