That was the problem! Once I cleaned the lens, my 5 year old PS2 ran like a 5 minute old PS2! It didn't even go to the system configuration screen! Thanks!

Hey there, I got one for ya.

I have fixed a dozen or more ps2. But this one is new to me. Dont know what they did to it but when you plug it in all that happens is the fan tries (unsuccesfully) to spin, it just sorts of twitches and the lights do not come on the power button. The Fuse looks fine. Any thoughts? Im thinking its toast.

Hey .. Ive been having a weird problem with my PS2 (old black one) ... whenever i would insert a DVD the game loads immediately without any problems and runs fairly well for a few minutes .. however after a minute or two of playing .... the screen goes black and either doesnt respond at all or returns after a long wait... if i remove the dvd and reinsert it .. the game returns only to go back into darkness after a couple of mins .. it seems as if whenever it tries to read something from the disc it completely slows down or doesnt even respond... i even got the lens changed but that didnt help .. please help me

I have a problem. I was having dre's and so I cleaned the lens and inside of the console. When I tested the system it worked but after I put it back together it stopped working. I don't even get a dre! The disc just spins and the screen says that the system is reading the disc and doesn't go beyond this! Any help would be unbelievably helpful! I can't afford a "new" system.

Hi, I have a PS2 Slimline version that won't play blue discs, and I'm not sure how to fix it. I cleaned the lens with alcohol, but I'm not sure what else to do. Can anyone please help? Thanks alot.

hi guys, i have just tried following the guides to fix my son's ps2, we have two machines 1 was not working at all disc errors on everything, after adjusting whitwheel and cleaning it now plays everything GREAT !!! however on the second machine it will only play either blue or silver discs not both. if i turn wheel all the way to top lets say 120clock it plays blue but as i bring it down towards 90clock 1 click at a time it starts playing silver at 9oclock but stops playing blue. i cannot seem to get a middle ground

Jost posting to say thank you so much for this guide. This being one of first pages that comes up on a google search, it was a great help to me as I opened up my PS2 for the first time and cleaned the lens.

I had been having problems with ONLY DVD's working and nothing else (PS1, Audio, etc.). Plus the PS2 games, though they loaded, took about 2 minutes to initially read the disc.

I cleaned the lens according to this guide, and my v5 fat system - once even struck by lightning (and since repaired professionally) started running like new! No more than 5 seconds to load anything, and all formats seem to be working.
