Decent PS2 games?
|
I just lost my ps3 to hardare failure, and was wondering about some good ps2 games? I'm into rpg's, action games, and fighting games Not really shooters so much on the ps2 because of the lack of replayability Oh and also, I'm new to Neoseeker, so...hey

Hey, welcome to Neoseeker.
I don't know what games you've played / heard of so I'll give you a full list of the games I consider the best:
Action
Devil May Cry Grand Theft Auto III Grand Theft Auto San Andreas Grand Theft Auto Vice City Legacy of Kain: Defiance Max Payne Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater Onimusha 3 Resident Evil Code: Veronica X Splinter Cell Tomb Raider Legend
Fighting
Mortal Kombat Deadly Alliance Tekken 5 The King of Fighters 2000/2001
As for RPGs, I don't play them so I can't tell you any good games of that genre.

Onimusha is made by Capcom as you probably already knew and it plays like the middle ground between Resident Evil and Devil May Cry, it's not as fast as DMC but not as slow as RE. It uses the same game mechanics near enough.

sweet, I just watched some youtube videos on the gameplay, and it looks pretty awesome actually. Although I don't think that gamestop carries it anymore

As for RPGs, I don't play them so I can't tell you any good games of that genre. That's why I'm here. I'd most certainly recommend Dragon Quest 8. It's about as traditional as it gets (almost to the point of being archaic sometimes), but it's still a fantastic game to go through time and time again. Final Fantasy X isn't exactly my favorite RPG, but a lot of people like it, so it's also worth trying out. On the flipside, Shadow Hearts is an RPG I *bleep*ing love, but it isn't the easiest to get into. Speaking of hearts, Kingdom Hearts is one well worth going through. In keeping with RPGs that aren't turn based, definitely get Tales Of The Abyss... unless you live in Europe or Australia - in which case, you have to buy some disc that lets PAL PS2s play NTSC games. Back to more turn based RPGs - Wild Arms 3, 4 and 5 are RPGs worth investing some time into. I haven't played them in a while though, so I can't, for the life of me, think of why I'm recommending them other than the fact that I thought they were good RPGs. If you want something more strategical, go for Disgaea 1 and 2, Arc The Lad: Twilight Of The Spirits and La Pucelle: Tactics. If you like your RPGs with a side helping of silliness, yeah, Disgaea will be your new best friend. There are a few others, but good luck finding them - Okage: Shadow King, Dark Angel: Vampire Apocalypse, Odin Sphere, Persona 3 and 4, and Rogue Galaxy.

I actually have odin sphere, persona 3 and Rogue Galaxy! Dragon Quest is deff a must for me, I've always been into that game But Disgaea is like Phantom Brave right?

eBay and second hand stores will be your best bet for finding PS2 games now.

Just last month I got a lot of used PS2 games from GameStop here in the USA. They had a "buy 2, get 1 free" offer going. GameStop also had boxes of disk-only PS2 games on the checkout-counter, all under $5. Picked up 21 games for under $100, including games I never thought I'd see. Like Kya: Dark Lineage and Sphinx and the Cursed Mummy. It sure couldn't hurt to check any GameStops near you. As for RPGs, Dark Cloud 1 and Dark Cloud 2 get mentioned a lot. Some love 'em. Some hate 'em. The PS2 has a library of over 1800 games. So I think you'll be busy for a while. Right now they're all pretty cheap, too.

I'm surprised Vergil didn't mention Metal Arms: Glitch In The System, considering that a couple of days ago, we were looking through some used PS2 games and he was like "oh man, Metal Arms is *bleep*ing awesome, like the best third person shooter on the PS2 not named Ratchet And Clank dude".

Shin Megami Tensei: Nocturne Digital Devil Saga 1 and 2 Devil Summoner 2 (first one sucks) Persona 3 FES and Persona 4 Mana Khemia 1 and 2 Ar Tonelico 1 and 2 Atelier Iris 1 and 2 (I heard 3 was no good, but I never played it) Radiata Stories Ys, The Ark of Hapishtim Rogue Galaxy Castlevania: Curse of Darkness Tales of Legendia Tales of the Abyss .hack//G.U vol 1-3 (dont bother with the original 4, they suck, jump into G.U) God Hand Onimusha 1-4 Valkyrie Profile 2 Metal Gear Solid 1-3 (the first is a PS1 game, but w/e, just buy the collection) Growlanser Generations GrimGrimoire Dark Cloud 2 (1 was decent, but hasn't aged well) and, finally Drakengard 2 (1 was okay, 2 is much better)
There you go, a huge ass list of rpgs, action rpgs and action games. Go, buy shit, have fun. Some of these are dirt cheap, some are harder to find though, keep that in mind.
