How so?

mostly linear storytelling and limited customization options when compared to other WRPGs. it might not be as butt*bleep*ingly linear as most JRPGs but it shows that the story ain't very good when there isn't much if anything resembling a world to get immersed into (not that the first game's story was good either but like an Elder Scrolls game, you could at least get immersed into the role you've created in a sprawling world they created).

eh I tend to dislike a fair amount of that JRPG stuff myself. thanks Final Fantasy 7 and 8 for making it okay to have angsty spiky haired teenagers instead of actual good characters as the protagonists. the Tales games (at least Symphonia and Vesperia, anyway, particularly Vesperia) mostly avoid those tropes thankfully.

I personally thought Vesperia's character and story were one of the best this series has to offer. Most of the Tales games stories do come off as pretty generic, especially Symphonia. I actually didn't get that from Vesperia.

Of course I respect your opinion though. =P

I will give it credits for Yuri Lowell though. He's one of the most interesting protagonists I have ever seen. But the other characters and the storyline didn't help him stand out. He had a lot of potential but I guess he was dragged down by the mediocrity of the environment.

Repede was another good guy, but kinda plain. He deserved more spotlight and it would have been great if we saw more of his background in the game itself (I heard they talk about him in the movie, but I haven't watched the movie yet).

Estelle pissed me off so bad. Symphonia is not my favorite Tales game, but I hated it how Estelle tried to be ToV's Collette. One does not simply try to copy Collette. Estelle was uhm, kinda clumsy, but not in a good way. She was really annoying as a character (and people always told me "you will love that pink haired chick"), and trying to copy Collette did no good.

The other characters... Eh, they were not annoying as Estelle but they were below average. I honestly don't understand why people love Rita so much.

The storyline in general was so plain and so predictable. The moment I saw the bad guy I knew he was the bad guy (forgot his name hahaha), and I even predicted the events that made Yuri stand out a little bit.

To each it's own though. I won't go around eating heads of those who loved the characters or the game, just like no one eats my head for disliking it . It looks like I'm a minority though.

IMO, Tales of The Abyss is THE must play Tales game out there. The characters are all great - Not especial or extremely different from other games, but they were great. Character development was simply the BEST I have ever seen in any entertaining media. They really did a great job with that. It's awesome how everyone, gamer included, really dislike Luke at first. I used to have feelings towards his attitude too - "What a bastard this rich guy is", "Wow, he really is an asshole", "My god stop being so stupid!". It takes me years to develop feelings, of happiness or sadness or whatever, towards a character. But I said that myself the first hours I played TotA, and in the end, I was like "Luke, you're a goddamn hero". How relationships worked in this game were really wonderful, and it makes me sad no other game gets close to this incredible level of character development.

The storyline was also really surprising too. This goes par in par with the character development because you NEVER know where the characters come from until you start interacting with the main antagonists as well, and you seriously get way too many surprises as the game progresses.

Man I used to love Pokémon games, but I simply can't play them anymore. I always get to the second gym, if even that, and then I drop them. I remember I beat every Pokémon game that landed in my hands but I haven't beaten a single Pokémon game after the Platinum games. I don't know why. I don't think Pokémon is a bad game in the least, but it's like my brain hates them because I can't progress much on them now.

Yes same here,I wasn't a fan of the specter. I was kind of disappointed but unwound future was great. I'm sure miracle mask will make up for it.
I heard a lot of good things about tales of the abyss, I will pick that up before miracle mask comes out. I do like vesperia, very long and satisfying for me. Estelle was less annoying then colette.

Diabolical Box was very predictable too, but Unwound Future has a beautiful ending ;-;

Canderson I'd definitely recommend either Curious Village (because it is the first and really good) or the third. It'd probably be better to play the first game first just to get the general idea of the storyline. The second's storyline wasn't really related as much as UF's ^^

There may be no new games coming out atm but I still got games to play. Plus new Pokemon came out so I've been playing it.
