As the new moderator to the Health & Fitness forum, I think an RFS thread will be useful to gather members' opinions relating to certain aspects of the forum's visual presentation and general content, since the forum's "structure" is rarely discussed. The goal of this forum will not be changed, but opinions and suggestions regarding reasonable changes will be welcome.

Before I get overrun with suggestions, I would like to point out that there are already a few things that I have in mind. A few community related changes are in the works and they are as follows:

Several other changes that are still a tad too premature to announce.

The index will be a continual work in progress, and not an immediate change at that. It will take time.

Having said that, let's open this floor up for discussion.

It would probably be good if you could maybe cut down on the stickies. I generally don't like a forum with six or more stickies in it. It makes some topics get on the second page quicker.

Oh, and even though I asked about cutting down on the stickies, do you think you could sticky this to make sure everyone knows about it. ~_^

Haha, okay. Maybe compiling the Index, Controversial Topics and/or Disclaimer: Forum Intent and Medical Advice, and the Food Pyramid Stickies all into the Forum Rules/Ban List thread. ~_^

Combining stickys that I have not made myself is a touchy area. Doing so can unintentionally take the wind from the proverbial sail of that stickied post. I have been tossing around the idea of a "Health & Fitness: One Stop Shop" type of thread where several important threads are merged into consecutive posts. That is yet to be seen though.

It might just be me, but I prefer the current background and header. It's been here ever since I joined the site and has become a common staple for those to recognize this forum with. In fact, I don't think there is much we can suggest which a moderator hasn't thought about already. Unlike most forums, we don't have many options of where you can go with health and fitness, or rather, where it should be restricted.

If there is a banner contest, I think judging, rather than some form of voting, would be far better, and to be honest, I'd like the forum to continue to have the same background, or at least have one. Yeah, the forum is going to change a bit, but no reason for the place to be rebuilt - it did run great under Siamese Dream and the room for improvement is small.

Personally, I don't like the header too much. So, it's something I wanted to be changed for quite a long time now.=/

I'm all for a forum Header / Background change, I will however miss the Hamster; Kinda grown on me as much as I initially disliked the design. Agreed on the member vote too, I'd rather see a header the forum participants are fond of than one competition judges are fond of.}

If and when the header or background is changed, it will be voted on by the members as this is a community forum. We may even have second and third place winners that can all rotate quarterly, depending on how many entries there are and the voter turn-out. Like I said before though, now I'm working on the Index and the header/background is not a priority ATM.

Hmm, on the stickies, why not just alter the header so that a second layer of links is there. Example:

Than just link the two threads and the forum rules between each other in the headers. ^^

While I'm here, great work on the index, Anonymous. I liked the subcategories, and a lot of the stuff which is asked most often is covered in one or two sections within it. Bet you found some interesting stuff in the back pages of the Health and Fitness forum.

A1, is it possible for us to drop more activities in here than just the typical health questions? We've got a Bball journal going, and I noticed a while back we really don't have a forum for activities like Rafting, Cycling, Hiking, that sort of thing, and since all of them have to do with Healthy living, would it be alright if we dropped them in here?
