ooc Mass Effect: Spectres - OOC

COnsider me in comrade, I wished i would of read your most recent GD post before I Pm'd you my thoughts. Anyways I do have a question, would it be acceptable that rather than be a Reaper, my character could be like a normal sergeant of the armed forces, and have a squad with him? I'll manage the squad (3 other NPC'S I'll make) and I got some good experience in running that kind of setup. Hell think of us as ODST to you guy's Spartans

If not then I'll just be a normal grunt rather than a Spectre, just sorta like the whole grunt mentality anyways XD

Wait. I actually have to mention that these days? I thought everyone knew my taste by now...

So the thing is that due to the unprecedented scale of the Reaper invasion the Council has somewhat relaxed the admitance critera for Special Tactics and Recon. So they've allowed non-Council races to be Spectres.
Drell, batarians, krogan and quarians in addition to humans, turians, salarians and asari. I doubt anyone would want to play a volus, elcor or hanar Spectre. I might be wrong.

The thinking behind this is that those special forces dudes from the maligned multiplayer are actually Spectres or Spectre candidates - they operate in small groups, they are badasses, they go into places and bust up things that 'normal' miltary units can't.

So I've got the opening sorted, I know how the RP will end. It's just a matter of sorting out everything in the middle.

I did think of sticking closely to the plot of the game but without Shep's influence on events. But then I decided that was a bit boring and little bit too easy in terms of an RP.
So some of the things from the game will still happen, some other things won't, and still others will turn out differently.

I don't know if I actually need a character with the sheer amount of NPCs and various others that will be encountered along the way. I just have to... coordinate all you dudes, and try to steer you in the right direction.

Kushluk Shimazu - I'm afraid I have to use my executive veto on your idea of running around the galaxy with a squad of your own. I would like players to work together rather than everybody going off and doing their own thing separately.
It's much easier for me to keep track if everyone is, for example, on Sur'kesh rather than one team being on Tuchanka with the krogan, another couple of guys on Palaven with the turians and another group somewhere else.
Which is not to say that you won't be able to split into groups at all, just I'd prefer it if you'd mostly work as a team.

Recap: it's easier on me running the thing, and it's easier for everyone else to follow what's happening where and when if you all play one dude each and stick together.

Well yours truly here was so excited about the RP I told them about it and I might have gotten a little more then I bargained for. Well first off I know my freind Kokushi is joining without a doubt, and so is my pal Razz EeveeX 44 .... and also there friend may join as well .

Problem here? They don't know anything about Mas Effect and I'm slowly teaching them via the wiki page and other sources.

Also I noticed it was mentioned in the GD thread by Tiger go Meow that we might tell a few of the Mass Effect 3 guys the RP is going on.

... I think we might be a tad overpopulated if that happens. But hell I consider that a good thing ... though others may think otherwise.

All stick together at first, and then go off into smaller groups to get things done. Also, it makes sense from an operational standpoint.
Everybody sticks together at first and then, once some plot-related things happen, split into smaller teams.

Less chance of everybody getting killed by a Reaper particle beam attack, for one thing.

So yeah. Need to think of more things to happen, since two or more plot events could be running at the same time. I've got enough things for now, but I'll see how it gets once the RP is running.

Characters can already be established in their roles as Spectres. Since this is set during the third game - asari, turian and salarian Spectres could have been fighting geth and maybe collectors prior to this.

Bear in mind, please, that to even be considered for Spectre candidacy, you have to be an incredible bad ass. Even though these people might be new to Spectre-ing, they're still among the best at what they do.

I'd rather not put a limit on the number of people that can join. Right now there's you and your two friends, Aulis, Kybur, SventheCrusader, maybe Tigergomeow. That's seven, if everybody stays the course.
I hope there is a multiple of three, because they you can split up into 3 man teams, just like the game!

I don't think I need a character, because I'll have my hands full playing... everybody who is not your dudes.

As for transport, each team can have a Kowloon Class Modular Freighter. You can call it whatever you want.
That is a joke.

I shall now kill the joke by explaining it.
The Kowloon was the only ship type other than the Normandy that you ever got to go on in the first Mass Effect game.

Direct ship-to-ship combat against actual Reapers (rather than the husk troops) with anything smaller than a dreadnought is foolish in the extreme. If you try it, I will have to kill your character and everybody else on the ship dead with no takebacks.
Proof - it takes the entire quarian fleet to take out the destroyer on Rannoch. I'm not sure if that was all three of the fleets, or just the civilian portion. And destroyers are just the 'small' Reapers.
Besides, Spectres are ground troops (well, all featured Spectres are) and so deal with things on planet surfaces. They leave the flying to people like Joker and Cortez, who are trained for it, and direct comabt action against Reapers to entire fleets of warships.

No Star Wars-y 'one torpedo in exactly the right (or wrong) place blows up the giant thing and saves the day' scenarios.
