Aeris Gainsborough - Discussion (the affection for Aeris) |
quote As everyone probably knows Aeris might very well be the single most loved person in a RPG ever to see the light of day. But really, why? I mean she was a rather good character but she had no where near as much emotions such as Tifa, Yunaor any other heroine really. So do you think she would have been equally as popular if she hadn't gotten stabbed by Sephiroth? it just wasnt the about her getting stabbed, it is also how cloud couldnt show hes emotions towards her but when he does its too late
Also her story was one of the most interesting and she kinda fought for what she believed in... man now that sounds cheesy LOL

*spoilers*
*warning - SPOILERS* I'm not sure why, but I actually found Aeris rather irritating. But yet, I felt really sad when she died - I cried and everything. While she was alive she was inspirational, and was even better when she was gone. The music was so fantastic - they couldn't have devised anything better. The soundtrack is unbeatable - I'd really recommend it. ------------------- ![]()

Aeris is a great character because while she has her inner demons and problems, she chooses to cover it up with a positive upbeat attitude.
Her mother died when she was too young to remember, and as she grew up in the slums of Midgar, she found that she could hear the cries of the planet. She knew she was different, but didn't share it with anyone. Cloud was one of the first people she ever really took interest in, and was likely one of the first friends she ever had aside from the kids at the church. Mostly because he reminded her of Zack, but also because she felt he was unique and different from humans, just like she was. In terms of personality, while she looks like a goody-two-shoe, she's one of the most flirtatious and upbeat FF characters. Essentially, she brought the joy and smiles to everyone's faces when their hearts were filled with anguish or sorrow. Through speaking with the planet, she learns that as the final ancient, she's the only one who can save the planet, and call forth HOLY and that she has to risk everything. Not wanting to put her friends - possibly the first friends in her life (Considering she lived in the slums, dreamed of the sky and was trapped there because of Shinra and the Turks)- in danger, Aeris chose to leave them behind. She didn't die because she had to. She didn't have to help anyone at all. But she chose to. It probably broke her heart, but she still chose her own path. Even in the end, before she got killed, she was smiling, simply because she knew that Cloud and everyone else came after her, tried to save her, cared for her. Aeris is a tragic character, but her sacrifice is what probably made her the popular character she is today. And yes, I was sad for weeks after her death. -------------------

I liked her because she was cute, but apart from that I wasn't really bothered when she died.

Ray summed it up pretty well. But in the end, her death is what made her and FFVII so popular. Cloud and Sephiroth also pretty much got popular because of it.

Her death is one of the most memorable moments in gaming history. While it would be very difficult, do you guys see a future Final Fantasy pulling something like that off again? I mean something as powerful?

quote Vito Raliffe I am not quite sure. I mean... It would just be like they were imitating this scene, and it would not be equally as unexpected. I mean ... Just look at Vosslers death in FF XII... It was hollow and non-important. Although, I guess it COULD be able to pull off. I would like to see a male character die. Someone more charismatic than Vossler that is. quote Xtrordinary|message:14899430I don't think she would have been as popular if she lived, but still would have had a big following. quote XtrordinaryYou said it. That's why I like her so much. Because she isn't Tifa, Yuna, or any other heroine; she's her.

Aerith > Yuna. I think Aerith is one of the under-appreciated characters in FF when it comes to personality. People only remember her for her death, but really nothing else. If that makes any sense? Maybe that's why so many people always misinterperate just what type of character/personality she is. Though I'll definitely agree that Aerith isn't anywhere near as complex as Tifa when it comes to emotions/presonality, I think Aerith is a lot deeper than people give her credit for. And I just like her better. Aerith = best sense of humour out of all FF characters. XD -------------------

Aeris has a way "simpler" personality mainly because she's mature, beside of the looks. She's simple, kind, cheering, has a sense of humour, even though she passed through many sad moments in her life, she stepped up and smiled.
Of course she had her complex emotion times, but she managed to get the upper hand, that's why she's so mature now. She knows what she passed through and knows what to do if she has to go through hard moments again: To be who she is. ------------------- ![]()
