I see you like Shadow Hearts thats like that. I love that game, have you played the sequels yet?

All of those games I listed are turn based with random battles except suikoden is more tactics.

I don't know any game like Shadow hearts that has a dark storyline, that game is unique. Just play the sequels if you haven't yet. I believe there is two.

The first Shadow Hearts was good - dark and gothic like. The sequels kinda sucks.

FF8 is a must before ya die, but I don't recommend ya play FF9. Ya may end up dead prematurely.

Vagrant Story and Parasite Eve 1 are two good games, created from the time FF7 was created so there are some similar, dark and gothic elements in those games.

I’ve played Final Fantasy 8 and I like the storyline especially when you find out who the final boss really is. The card game has merit as well.

I’ve heard of Parasite Eve and I know its on the PSN and it kinda reminds me of Vampire Hunter D. As for Vagrant Story I’m afraid to say I never got round to finishing it.

Yeah, SH sequels were very weak and at the end of the first CD and beginning of the next, the story felt like rubber - strecthed beyond rational limits. They should have ended the game in CD1. Ending kinda sucks and not logical.

SH- New World was a new gamble with the old story, but hardly felt anything like the original SH. A new hero - probably to replace Yuri but he isn't anything like Yuri. Fusion and the Judgement Rings are the only two things similar to the original - but Judgement Ring was made too easy, no challenge.

Parasite Eve 1 was one of the best game to come out after FF7 - similar concept except instead of a spiky headed kid with a large sword strapped to his butt ... back, we have a blondie for a heroin. The bad guy in FF7 is Sephiroth and we have a female version of Sephiroth - Eve (Melissa Pearce). It is a truly remarkable game (at least, to me).

However, they screwed up the sequel (surprise!) and we have PE2 (2001) and latest edition - PE - the Third Birthday for PSP. Unfortunately, I haven't play the game cos my PSP is not in a good condition. But ppl who played it says it very similar to DoC.

I just want to say to anyone reading this that the first Shadow Hearts was made by ex Square Soft staff members and is well worth playing if you haven’t played it yet. Parasite Eve is sounding better by the minute so I’m going to give that ago at some point.

I just want to add that the PSX version of Star Ocean 2 The Second Story is the only RPG I’ve found which was on the same level as ff7 (in my opinion).

The Legend of Dragoon looks very promising and that’ll be going on my list.

I haven’t asked about the roleplaying games on the PS2 because mine broke a long long long time ago and for now the list that YugiohGirl has provided will keep me occupied for quite some time. However if you do have any suggests for the PS2 keep them coming.
