Disc 1 damaged, need PS3 save data

Hey guys, I'm playing through on my PS3 (highly recommended), and a deep scratch has left me trapped late into disc 1. Dexdrive saves are no good, and I've tried every disc-fixing solution on the planet.

Is anyone willing to send me a gamesave at the beginning of disc 2? Much appreciated!

Yeah, I tried the dexdrive saves, and the ps3 can't read them. Whenever either of you guys get to disc 2, hit me up on AIM SoberLaptop, and I'll walk you through the transfer process (it's easy).

re: Disc 1 damaged, need PS3 save data

I assume when you say you've tried every disc fixing solution on the planet, that includes buying an actual, purpose made, official, disc repair kit, and using that?

I ask because for some reason no matter how many times I see people complaining about damaged discs on neoseeker, I never, not once, see anyone suggest using a cd repair kit. They always suggest something stupid such as using toothpaste.

That said, sometimes nothing will work. That happened to me with my (newly bought, though second hand) Area 51 disc.
I tried the repair kit about 4 times. In the end I scanned the disc into my PC and created an image. I then mounted that disc image using Alcohol 120% and used a playstation emulator to play the game.

Now, this kinda sucked for Area 51 because it is a light gun game. For Final fantasy 7 the result would be awesome.

So I highly reccomend taking this course of action. Forget the PS3. Use your PC to emulate the game. It's legal since you own it. Also you can enhance the in game graphics with the emulator's video options.

Now, I know this sounds odd since as you said, your disc appears to be damaged, so you'll be wondering how the heck you can make an image from a damaged disc.

But it is worth a try. It worked for me. I have no idea how. Maybe the pc is just better at retrying to read damaged disc areas than a console.

If that worked, I would probably cry. But I doubt it would work on my disc 1 of FFVII, the top of it got peeled off by sticky tape. So it's blue instead of black when you look through it at a light.

Acutally... does that make a difference? It worked fine before the top came off, but the disc is covered in scratchs. I dunno.

The top? What do you mean by the top? Do you mean the kinda... sticker that is physically ON TOP of the disc when it's in your drive?

If so I see no reason why that would cause any problem since that's on the opposite side of the disc from the data layer...

And I don't know of anything that's actually present on the data side of the disc that could come off with tape...

Very strange. I'd think it was just scratches that's the problem.

re: Disc 1 damaged, need PS3 save data

I've tried many household remedies (including toothpaste), and I do have a bottle of commercial solution. I also tried boiling the cd, which I read works sometimes. The smaller, superficial scratches are all gone, save for the one deep gouge that has clearly penetrated the data layer.

I may have someone shipping me another disc, so I'm not terribly worried anymore. I do know that I'll be keeping a disc 2 gamesave around just in case.

re: Disc 1 damaged, need PS3 save data

The stuff you used only had one bottle? Huh.
We have a kit with three bottles. One cleans the crap off your disc, the second fills the cracks, and the third is a protective layer to stop it being damaged again. Like you say though, if the data layer is penetrated, your disc is likely doomed.

I really don't get why people use toothpaste. There's one MAJOR problem with toothpaste. Namely it contains tiny granules designed to abrade the crap off your teeth. So using that will likely scratch up your disc even worse. Might depend on the type and brand of course.

BOILING a cd? Good grief, that's actually effective? I thought that would just warp your disc and make it unusable. ;
