MacWorld Expo 2008 |
|
What do you think is going to be announced at the MacWorld Expo in January?
I think they are going to release an ultraportable 9' screen laptop, they are going to announce their movie rental service on iTunes, and maybe a new Mac Pro? Any ideas?

I bet they will release their plans to take over the world with an army of brainwashed youth wielding modified i-pods i phones and annoying commercials.

It would seem that the only sure bet is the 1.1.3 iPhone firmware surfacing. Other popular predictions include a new "sub-notebook" being revealed along with changes being made to the Mac mini (perhaps even merging with AppleTV). I'm not sure whether there'll be any huge surprises... but this is Apple we're talking about after all!

It would be nice to see an ultra-portable Macbook Pro (12.1 inch screen or less), since there hasn't been an ultra-portable Mac since the 12.1 inch Powerbook. I also wouldn't be surprised if Apple came out with some sort of tablet since they are starting to become more mainstream.

You can view the entire conference here, on a spoiler free page. It was certainly worth the watch, with a couple of unexpected and welcome announcements.
Looks as though Apple are already on their way to make 2008 an even bigger year than 2007! -------------------

The MacBook Air I thought was going to be similar to the 12' PowerBook. It has the same size screen as MacBook, no optical drive, worse specs then the MacBook, and costs more. Only pros it gets is more battery life, runs cooler, and looks better, but, the MacBook already looks absolutely gorgeous. I see no point in the MBA....

You really have to see the MacBook Air physically to comprehend its size. It's a work of art, perfect for users looking for portability without compromising other equally important factors. The lack of an optical drive isn't too big an issue, especially with Remote Disc, but would have been appreciated. The only real limiting factor is the substandard base specification, which is hardly ideal for anything processor intensive. However the generous 2GB RAM helps alleviate any potential issues, plus if you're going to be running anything that requires desktop power... well, you'd use a desktop! For regular notebook needs the Core 2 Duo 1.86Hz (or preferably the 1.8GHz upgrade) should be more than capable.
The price tag is currently the only thing making me consider bumping up to a MacBook Pro or even just sticking to the black MacBook when I make my first notebook purchase later this year. The new pricing on Apple TV "Take Two" on the other hand... -------------------

Yeah, maybe I will go check out the MBA in an Apple Store next month when I get the time.
My BlackBook is lovely though.

The MacBook Air is definitely a cool looking laptop, but I think it is a bit too expensive for the specs it has. I know that it's extremely thin, and I'm sure there is a market for it, but I would rather have a MacBook Pro if I had to choose between the two.
