American Traditional Foods and the Origin of French Fries

Whenever I go to the USA all I see is:

Mexican Burritos, Italian Pasta, Canadian Bacon, etc.

is there a typical American food (excluding junk food)??

Edit: Title changed cause now the last posts are all about French Fries

Fast Food. Although that may be under junk food too. I say New York Strip Steak would qualify though.

Well, your typical McDonald's meal isn't even "American" either.

Hamburger=Germany
French Fries=Britain
Soda=Britain

Pork and beans? Yams? Fried Chicken? I'm guessing any type of soul. There's cajun food from the south.

Philly Cheesesteak. Cheesecake. Chicago pizza (italian, but an american variety). Spam, dirty rice?, turkey

I thought of a few more now too. Apple Pie(Very american indeed), New York Thin Crust Pizza, and Mashed Potatoes(As far as I know).

Yeah I guess you could consider dirty rice American, considering it comes from New Orleans.

Anyway, I believe that any type of steak is American.

re: American Traditional Foods and the Origin of French Fries

Well when that old dude from the US signed the treaty of france, he took some fries back to the US with him.. so yeah...

Well, hotdogs are an American food (I didn't say it originated from the U.S.).

Also, you can't go wrong with saying Pizza is an American food (Again, read the above).

The cheeseburger is also highly liked in the U.S.
