I'm sure most people reading this know how Peach can collect items and give them to Mario indirectly by putting them in that magic chest. You're not very far in the game if this is news to you. I think chapter 2 or 3 is the first one you can do this. I doubt most people would be disappointed to find out about this ahead of time, but it's still technically a spoiler, hence my warning
ANYWAY...If Peach collects the items - the badges and such - but she
doesn't put them in the chest, what happens to them? Do you just never get them or...? I've beaten the game before, but it's been awhile so I can't recall if Mario actually encounters Peach before defeating Bowser. I assume she'd just give Mario the stuff then if he does but I dunno.
