Final Fantasy XIII User Reviews
When it comes right down to it, Final Fantasy XIII is kind of uneven. Not so much in terms of quality, but more in terms of pacing. I wanted so badly to like it given its monumental highs, but its lows make me think that it’s kind of boring.
It’s a very subjective complaint, I get it – some people would find my favorite games like Doom, Banjo-Tooie and Just Cause 2 boring – but the thing I believe made it boring isn’t so subjective. Simply put, this game starts off so *bleep*ing slowly, it wouldn’t need an egg timer; it’d need an egg calendar! Seriously, the first 20 hours consist of tutoria...
Fal'Cies serve as the supernatural workers of Final Fantasy XIII's world, demigods that shelter humanity in a sphere-shaped structure called Cocoon. There they nurture the citizens' every need, cradling them in the sky above the feared and wild earth below known as Pulse. But as Final Fantasy XIII begins, that floating paradise is being dismantled. A foreign Fal'Cie from Pulse has found its way inside, erupting a panic between a fleeing civilian resistance and military groups attempting to "purge" the sector clean of the contamination. Amidst the chaos you'll lead an unsuspecting cast to th...
It keeps in tune with its predecessors in terms of raw story power and emotional connection with characters and setting. The new battle system is entertaining and demands a strategy mindset that is not necessarily harder, but certainly different than before. The bad:
The linear level design leaves one wanting for more.Summary:
As a role playing powerhouse franchise, Square Enix is put under heavy expectation by fans upon the release of every new Final Fantasy title. Final Fantasy XIII is no different, and it overall it doesn't disappoint. With stunning graphics, a compelling soundtrack, and a grandiose story one could only expect from Square, the one negative aspect of the game can be quickly overlooked.
Final Fantasy XIII is set in the world of Gran Pulse, which is comprised of the lower world (Gran Pulse) and the floating capitol of Cocoon, where the game's story begins. Both Gran Pulse and Cocoon are controlled...
I just want to get a few things out of the way. First off, I don't hate Final Fantasy XIII for silly and usually unfounded reasons like linearity, lack of towns and anything else that feels like window dressing. Next, I don't hate Final Fantasy XIII because of any apparent casualizations - JRPGs never really tiptoed into hardcore territory until the first Shin Megami game on the PS2, and if they came anywhere near it beforehand, it was probably mediocre anyway. Finally, I don't hate Final Fantasy XIII because it's linear. By rule of thumb, all JRPGs are linear. You could argue that the olde...

Final Fantasy and myself haven't been getting along for years now. Since Final Fantasy X2, I just can't seem to see Final Fantasy in the same light I saw it in when I first played Final Fantasy VI on the Super Nintendo at the tender age of six, and continued on with the series as I grew up and started supporting Sony instead of Nintendo. Don't get me wrong, Final Fantasy X2 and XII had good intentions, but the storylines just weren't engrossing enough, and neither were the characters. But at the very least, they weren't terrible games; just lackluster in ...
Beautiful graphics and soundtrack; a nice idea that could work in theory...The bad:
...however, it's execution is a little less than stellar; bland story and characters (barring two); horrific pacing; barely any sidequests.Summary:
It's hard to really discuss this game without the need to look like somebody who just wants to live in the 90s. Like Sonic The Hedgehog, Final Fantasy has a rough time thriving in this generation. Now, this and the last generation have been much kinder to Final Fantasy than they have been to Sonic, but it's not without its stinkers. Final Fantasy 12 was absolutely horrible on all fronts except for the graphics. So what about Final Fantasy 13? While it's better, it's still not without its share of faults to keep you from really enjoying it. It could've been a fantastic game,...
