[edit] Background

A futuristic sandbox MMORPG, EVE Online is an online Sci-Fi experience unlike any other. After the collapse of the EVE Gate, man became stranded in the universe of New Eden. After some time, the surviving factions have developed into vast empires. The player's role in this universe is the driving force behind every aspect of the game. Everything from module production to empire management is controlled by players on a single, persistent server. Participate in fleet battles involving thousands of real players at once, or become a shrewd market manipulator. The possibilities are endless in the world of EVE Online.

[edit] Gameplay

As a true sandbox, New Eden can be an overwhelming experience to the new player. From the first moment that the player enters the game for the first time, they are given the opportunity to experience any part of the game content. Player owned Corporations are the primary source of community, and many players seek membership in these Corporations to make adaptation to the game much easier. The player primarily controls a spaceship, which can be customized with an endless array of individual module combinations. With their ship, the player (typically called a capsuleer in the world of EVE Online) can run missions for NPC Corporations, fight for a Player Corporation, explore the world of New Eden for hidden rewards, take part in mining and production of the ships and modules of the universe, and much more. The universe of EVE Online is divided into several sectors of space, varying by their degree of NPC provided security and relativity to other areas of space. At the center of New Eden is High Security Space, heavily policed by NPC security, where criminal acts are punishable by instant death. At the fringes is Low Security Space, where police turn a blind eye to crime outside their own doorstep. Beyond Low Security Space is the real wild west of New Eden - Null Security Space. Owned by Player Alliances, NPC police are nowhere to be found, and mob rule is the way of life. Somewhere in between is the mysterious Wormhole space, a lawless and dangerous place patrolled by the powerful Sleepers and vastly wealthy Player Corporations.
