Dragon Quest V is the fifth flagship title in Enix's long-running JRPG series, originally released for the Japanese Super Famicom in 1992. The story of DQV spans thirty years of the main character's life as he searches for his missing mother, and maybe even discover the truth behind the legendary hero that his father had hoped to find.
The flow of the game revolves around the player gathering a party of NPC allies and traveling across a world map, visiting towns and exploring dungeons to progress the main plot. Encounters against enemies are played out in turn-based combat, where for the time in the series the player can manually control the main character's allies. Instead of fellow adventurers, the main character instead tames and recruits up to 40 (71 in future remakes) different kinds of monsters to his cause; up to four can act as party members.
DQV was particularly memorable due to an important decision the main character is forced to make partway through the story, where the player must choose between two female characters to marry. This leads to the introduction of two important characters who will rejoin the main character later in the plotline as the in-game years go by, further shedding light on the mystery surrounding the legendary hero.
This game is also known as Dragon Quest V: Tenkuu no Hanayome in Japan.
