Donkey Kong

The good:

This can keep you going fo a long time trying to beat your own top score.

The bad:

I hate just hate it when your doing really well and die.

Summary:

Donkey Kong was maybe the graetest retro arcade game ever. It's a great deal of fun having to climb up ladders, dodge barrels and other various obstacles and save Mario's girlfriend. This is were the Mario era all kicked off thanks to Donkey Kong back in the eightys. The sound effects and music are really cool and suit the whole game in general. The levels are really well designed and layed out for maxamim fun and a bit of a challenge at the same time. The graphics arn't the best ever but that is because it's a classic.

Overall opinion, i think this was the greatest arcade game ever, even if...

An almost-perfect port of the game that started it all

The good:

Arcade-perfect graphics, sound, and control. Simple yet challenging gameplay. 2 skill levels and 2 player alternating modes.

The bad:

The "pie factory" level from the arcade didn't make it in due to memory limitations.

Summary:

Donkey Kong was more than just a game in the arcades-it was the birth of an eternal rivalry that continues to this day, the feud between Donkey Kong and Mario (then known simply as Jumpman). In the game, DK had captured Jumpman's girlfriend, Pauline (who would alter become Princess Peach), and Mario climbed through 3 different levels to get her back, dodging barrels and fireballs that DK constantly rained down on him. Jumpman's only weapon, beside his jumping skills, were hammers scattered throughout the levels to smash the barrels & fireballs with.
The game is almost exactly on the NES like...

Think 1981.

The good:

Direct, well near direct translation of the 1981 most played game of all time. Graphics, sound, and near everything else is also mirrored.

The bad:

The "conveyer" belt mishap. Controls.

Summary:

Donkey Kong for the NES does a remarkable job of capturing everything that made the 1981 arcade game great. The graphics are an almost exact reproduction, and the sound is nearly perfect from the original as well. Controls are a bit of an issue, but the timing and speed of characters and objects also matches up well. The omission of the conveyor belt level is the only glaring flaw, keeping this version from being the definitive translation of the coin-op classic. Nintendo, sadly though, other then this Donkey Kong coin-op game, has failed a bit in the other DK releases from coin-op.
