Dishonored is a 2012 action game by Arkane Studios, published under Bethesda Softworks. The game focused heavily on stealth, and utilizes the first-person perspective. Players step in the shoes of one Corvo Attano, a man who finds himself at the wrong end of a major conspiracy.
Once the once-trusted bodyguard to the Empress of Dunwall, Corvo is framed for the monarch's murder, but before the conspirators can properly silence him, he escapes with his life and the mark of the mysterious Outsider. With the Outsider's dark powers at his disposal, Corvo must then gather what allies he can find and seek to clear his name.
Dishonored takes place in the industrial city of Dunwall, a fictional locale inspired heavily by English cities during the 19th century. Here, whale oil is the most valuable resource, used as fuel throughout the city and by the government to develop powerful weaponry. While political machinations grip Dunwall's ruling numbers, the streets are overrun by a deadly plague carried by rats, which are used heavily as a symbolic element in the story as well as a major gameplay mechanic.
Corvo's powers allow for a number of different play styles based on preference, though most of the core abilities -- such as Blink and Dark Vision -- tend to favor the stealthier approach. The game features six active powers, four passive enhancements, and a number of perks for improving the assassin's supernatural abilities. Numerous playthroughs of Dishonored are required for collecting all powers and abilities.
